| Hit a Pheasant but got away with it...... ....so an 'almost' wrecked bike!
Pheasants. What a pointless creature. If you're a bird, why evolve to be fat and round, with daft little wings barely big enough to get you off the ground and a pea-sized brain small enough to make even Visordown members look intelligent!
I was riding home though the B roads when I saw a pheasant in the road ahead. I slowed down and as the pheasant saw me it ran to the other side of the road. So I sped up again, to get past it... only a car then came along on the other side of the road. Instead of running on th the hedge, the stupid pheasant did a 180 and decided to try to fly away.... right in to my path. With it's wings being almost useless, it only managed to reach an altitude exactly the same as my head height. As I saw it take off, I looked down and braced myself for impact. The pheasant collided with the top of my head.... luckily I was riding in a straight line at the time so I stayed on.
Now I have seen some pretty nasty pictures before involving bird life, if they hit you square in the face they can cause a lot of damage. I was lucky this time, no harm done to me - the pheasant I guess did not get off as lightly, going by the clout it made on my lid!
Anyone else had any run-ins with the local wildlife and got away with it.... or not as the case may be? |

When I had my sv650 came round a corner with 5 deer on the road, I went to the other side of the road away from the deer. Good idea you would think but noo, deer decided that they wanted to go there too. So first one made it but second one ran stright into the bike. Shunted the bike about a foot or two to the right (years of horse riding paid dividends here). Deer 0 Bike 1/2
Allowed the bike to slow on its own because I had a deer embedded within the bike. Stopped about 200metres down the road got off, carcas of a deer lying about 20 metres behind, front wheel had a deer beard within the rim of the tyres. loads of bits within engine and bike.
Loads of damage done to the bike, it was written off.
Before you ask, no there was nothing worth while to take back home (deer wise)

Got away with them all except the human who smashed my right wrist and arm without sustaining any injuries himself.
I knew a guy who took a crow into his visor which gave him two black eyes and left him unconscious on the side of the road until he came to but no serious injuries luckily.

| Re: Hit a Pheasant but got away with it...... I've hit a girl pheasant... The stupid bugger ran out from the hedgerow just at the wrong time.. There was a big puff of feathers as it hit my front wheel and no I didn't stop to see if it was ok or even dead, but edible..
I've also run over a badger a couple of weeks ago.. It was already dead in the road though.. I was coming out of a bend and there was this 'lump' right in my line and as I was bearing down on it thinking " WTF is that?" it dawned on me.. .. .. .. and because I had been looking at it I ran the bugger over again... Both me and my bike 'bumped' up over it!!! To be honest I was kinda expecting to plough 'through' it and end up with my bike covered in dead badger bits, but it must have been fresh so we 'bumped' instead |

| Re: Hit a Pheasant but got away with it...... Well would you adam and eve it..... I was out today on an Observed Ride (training for my IAM test) when another one of these stupid creatures decided to end it all by flying across my path. Again I was doing 60MPH and I saw the bird on the laft side of the road as I was overtaking. It took off and again I could see by it's trajectory that it was on a collision course with my face. I ducked and braced for impact, exactly like last time, but this time I didn't feel anything. When we got to the next stop, I asked my Observer how close it had been - he told me that I did hit it, and there was a cloud of feathers. If I hadn't ducked, I would have hit it square in the face.
Pheasants should be banned. |
