| Wrecked my baby Coming home from work the other day I laid my bike over at about 40 mph. Been riding nearly daily for 3 years and its my first crash. It wasnt supposed to rain but for some reason it started drizzling that morning. I was coming around a very shallow bend in the road and must have hit an extra slick oily spot cause the next thing I know I'm sliding on my back. Shitty part is that I was wearing shorts, I NEVER wear shorts when I ride but for some reason I did that day. Got road rash all down my leg. Otherwise I am fine. But my baby, an 06 CBR 1000RR, had 6k miles and not one single smudge or scratch anywhere is now pretty much totaled. All the plastics are broken, the stator cover is scratched to hell and the left clipon is broke off. I had just waxed her that night. |

| Re: Wrecked my baby Sorry to hear about the crash.
Before everyone starts flaming you about wearing shorts - you have now had to learn the hard way - I doubt u'll be going out in shorts again!
I think its time to replace the stator cover, replace the clip on or get a set of handle bars and streetfighter it. Mmhmm.
Pics?

| Re: Wrecked my baby I could hold a firecracker in my left hand and still count on it the number of times I've ridden with shorts on. I NEVER do it, but I was then. I was wearing gloves, a helmet and a jacket. I would have been scratch free had I been wearing pants. I'm pretty pissed at myself. Turns out, concrete makes a D*MN good exfoliate! |

Thanks for sharing the fact that you got rashed. It's positive reinforcement to me to ALWAYS ride with my gear. |

| Re: Wrecked my baby Do you mind if we have any pictures of your road rash? I think it would service a purpose reminding people the effects of riding with no gear on.

| Re: Wrecked my baby Glad to hear you're alright partner. Honestly you would have got rashed even with jeans on. Jeans shred instanly when you hit asphalt and don't help much( I have tested it already ). Leathers or riding pants are the best way to keep from getting rashed. I'm guilty of riding in jeans everyday, but I am looking into getting some riding pants I can pull over my work clothes. Jeans do help from burning your legs on exposed exhaust pipes though. Nothing like hearing the skin on your leg hiss as it touches the exhaust . |

Sucks to lose your baby, but unlike a body part, you will easily replace a Bike.
Godspeed on your healthy return,

It took 0.6 seconds to get through jeans, skin, flesh, muscle to your bone.

| Re: Wrecked my baby Wow, I kinda thought jeans would last longer than 1/2 a second.
My leg is healed almost to the point of being able to take the bandage off. Maybe tomorrow. I had to take a couple of days off work right after the wreck. It got infected and hurt so bad I couldn't move it. I think I'm gonna go ahead and sign up for that Aflac when he comes around again. I have a new found respect for my patients that complain of pain from a road rash, they hurt!
Insurance inspector came by and said it was totaled with $6300 in damage. It really didn't look that bad to me but he counted anything and everything that had a scratch. They will get back to me with the rest of the details next week. I hope Dairyland insurance is good. I'm planning on keeping her and fixing her up myself. Anybody know any details about riding a salvage title in Texas?
Thanks for the support guys! Yall are great! |

We all agree on ATGATT, but there's just one other thing, I see that you're only 23yrs of age....whatever we do when we're young will and does catch up with us when we get older....I may only be 40 but I've covered enough miles to have the aches and pains to prove it.
So Ride Safe, enjoy life...just think of the future
