| Well, I Had A Good Time Last Night, Ehh... Was out riding near Carl Junction, MO(little town outside my city). Just cruising out in the country, came to a T-Intersection, I had the straight ahead/right away. SUV was at the T, which had the stop sign... he came into the T turning right, the opposite direction I was going, but he never quite stopped, just drove through the stop sign.
He took the turn wide, don't know if he was drunk, didn't know where he was, don't know if he was paying attention, but he came out wide, I wasn't thinking much of it, thought he was going to turn into his lane, but he came out into me, hit the bike, threw me and the bike into the grass, I went off the bike, bike went into a barb wire fence.
I had all my gear on, helmets pretty messed up on one side, my riding jacket is destroyed, got a little road rash on my hip, but I walked away. I gave the cops the best description of the vehicle that I could, just a darker colored SUV and the direction it went. When cops were talking to me, someone reported a black SUV sitting in a parking lot with the hood up about 10mins away, so two officers took off to investigate it, I haven't heard if the guy was caught.
This was all around 1:30-2am last night. Bars were getting out, etc... I'd say it was a drunk guy. |

The base of the rail broke off. On the left side, I didn't investigate it, didn't bother looking at it much, I'm afraid it may of snapped the engine mount bolt, hope not.
Also noticed a piece of the engine case busted off on the right side. No fluids leaking but I can look in on the motor, about an inch x inch piece of magnesium broke away. |

I got full coverage back on the bike a month ago today, weird, eh? I started my claim process today, but the office I have to go through was closed, so I have to give State Farm rest of info tomorrow.
Question. Anyone ever gone through this? How will a settlement be reached? Will insurance give me a fair-market value? Or will they go by NADA/KBB value? I had a motorcycle stolen two years ago, and they just gave me a NADA value and settled at that. But somewhat recently a friend of mine was ran off the road and his insurance kept low-balling him with offers. I'm just curious as to what I need to expect. |

| Re: Well, I Had A Good Time Last Night, Ehh... Bummed! Sorry to hear about the bike, but glad your OK. The insurance companies are going to try and low ball you, that's how they save thierselves money. Since it's your insurance that has to cover it, I'm not sure how much haggling you can do with them. If it was the other person's insurance I wouldn't except any amount that I wasn't happy with. They throw out a low number hoping you bite, knowing that you could get more out of it.
Hope everything works out for you.

| Re: Well, I Had A Good Time Last Night, Ehh... Took the bike to the shop a few days ago for the insurance estimate...
$15,600 for repairs. It's save to say the bike will be totaled. Now it's a matter of settling the claim. |

Well, heres the thing bro,i got hit on my GSXR January of 07 at a red light,i didn't have insurance because it's not required, and i can't even afford it but i finally got my settlement aug of 08 for about 10k
if you get a lawyer don't settle for anything if it isnt what you want, granted they won't go higher then his/your policy value but my lawer could only promise me 1k witch was bs,i just kept saying no until he dropped me and then the whole check was mine,I'm sure it would of worked out differently if i had my own insurance, but, just an idea.
Goodluck dude, like seriously i hope you get some cash i was heart broken without my bike |
