| Rider down 8*15*09 my buddy and I were on our way home after a night out celebrating his 21st and 5 miles from our houses, he disappeared from my mirror on our last interstate exit. after moments of confusion i flew back on the interstate and did the illegal U turn thingy and flew back to the exit and seen a glimmer of his bike in the distance. i threw the stand down and darted out there. (so glad for the kill switch in the stand) when i seen the bike (2005 Suzuki Sv1000)i was horrified, forks ripped off just below the lower triple tree, entire front end gone and the tail end gone. i didnt see him anywhere. after slowing down and thinking, i darted towards where it looked like it came from and seen him lying there about 50 feet from the bike. he didnt look that bad besides his shattered left arm in many many places and blood coming from his nose. so i tried to wake him up by shaking his chest and yelling, he didnt respond. then i got to hear his last gasps for air coupled with the gargling sound of blood filling his lungs somewhere in that mix i called 911, i think it was when i first seen the bike, not sure what all they heard. after realizing i couldnt do anything i raced to the blade and pulled it down in the grass and shined the lights on him and shortly after a firetrucks was on its way down the exit. shortly after that his girlfriend showed up and went hysterical, so i had to run to her and drag her to the road so she couldnt see, so i didnt get to see much after that. He died 6 hours later. he had no brain activity, they couldnt keep his heart going or lungs. he wasnt wearing his helmet but i think if he was he might of still been here today. he actually had a pair ordered tho, he was just waiting to get them. I always wear mine and was wearing mine that night. my motto is if you just wear it and get used to it, you'll eventually not even notice its there. RIDE SAFE

| Re: Rider down 8*15*09 Sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds like a couple mistakes caused your friend to the lose most valuable thing in this world... a life.
Don't take it the wrong way if people start bashing him because it sounds like he was drinking and also not wearing protective gear. A lot of us on here take our gear very, very seriously just because of stuff like this. I wish his love ones and friends the best of luck. Especially his girlfriend as she was at the scene and that is something she'll have to remember the rest of her life. |

| Re: Rider down 8*15*09 Just a terrible story and something we all think about at times like this, how fragile we really are. My thoughts are with you (having to witness it) and his other friends and family.

| Re: Rider down 8*15*09 MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES
let's push safe riding everyone, if you see someone riding without their gear, let's say something to them.......if we can save atleast one life, we've done our duty as responsible riders.

| Re: Rider down 8*15*09 Man, stories like this are incredibly sobering. Really shows the importance of wearing all the right gear even on a short ride. Hope my wife doesn't read any stories like this, she's already pretty worried about me as it is. |

| Re: Rider down 8*15*09 yep, i just laid down the blade going about 30 in the middle of town cuz somebody slammed on their brakes in front of me. was wearing the cow hide rocket nation jacket, steel toe boats and my helmet, all those places were totally fine. i let a friend borrow my ridin gloves for the weekend for the motorcycle safety coarse, so i didnt have those so road rashed palms, knuckles, and knees. was only wearing pants, man does it burn! luckily it was just dropped on the right side 2 weeks ago so i already have all new everything ordered for the right side, which is a + i guess. these bikes do have a tip over kill switch dont they? |

we all agree'd about that. that's why i encouraged his parents to do mostly everything motorcycle style cuz he would of loved that. he road behind a 3 wheeled Harley on 20 inch chrome rimes that towed a 3rd wheel type hitch trailer that had all see thru glass on all 4 sides and it had 20 inch chrome rims that matched the Harley. IT WAS BAD ASS. he also had an engraved motorcycle on his vault and his parents told me they found a motorcycle tombstone. im glad it didn't make the whole family hate bikes, cuz i know people that it does it to. if you have a myspace, log in and then click on this link for pictures.
