Itching for the Yamaha Raptor 700

Hey guys and gals...
I was down at the local dealer today picking up some cleaner for the 954, when low and behold I seen it. 2006 Yamaha Raptor 700! Beautiful! Up untill today I wanted the Yamaha 450. Trouble is, Im loaded with 2 bikes now and a third (Ive been told) is out of the question. I cant believe Im going to say it but I might look into selling my pride and joy 954 to get a hold of that 700 Raptor. Anybody have one or know of someone who does? Tell me what you think about them. Ride safe all, and thanks.

Uh, it's got like 4 wheels. Does it transform into something cool?

You can't sell it. You just got a new windscreen for it.

Now I have to go to google and see what a Raptor 700 is lol.

I rode a 660 and thought it sucked. (seriously) Lots of motor, chassis wasn't up to it.

It has 4 wheels...why are we having this discussion again?

Re: Itching for the Yamaha Raptor 700

The Raptor has had gobs of problems since day one. First it was the tranny, then it was the axle, then the engine, etc.
If fixed up with lots of aftermarket goodies they make a good dune machine, but like LTL stated the chassis sucks big time. Even worse than the Banshee chassis.
With this being a new revision, it will encounter the typical Yamaha ATV issues with reliability and design.
Yeah, it's got power but it isn't anywhere near as fun to ride as either 450.
If you're looking to get a sport ATV go with the YFZ 450 or TRX 450.
If you want sporty, but not race, get the TRX 400 or the KawaSuzuki 400.
If you have to have a big bore sporty ATV that actually handles somewhat sporty get the Bombardier DS650.

Just the input I was hoping for, thanks. I will lean towards the yfz450. Now, we'll stop talking about 4wheelers as its upsetting lovetolean...lol

I have been almost killed by so many scoggins on quads who lacked the skill to be out on the trails I might have a bit of a chip on my shoulder.

Re: Itching for the Yamaha Raptor 700

There are a lot of morons on quads unfortunately. They are fun - and much easier than a bike - to ride, and relatively inexpensive. That formula equals kids and idiots.
It also gives a very bad name to those that ride them responsibly and/or have the ability to ride in conjunction with bikes on the trails, rather than in the way of.
I still have fun riding them, but I also find myself cursing atv riders at times.

Yeah, I don't own a quad, but I can ride one respectably, and they can be fun.

They're just not as fun as bikes, except maybe in the snow or ice.

I grew up with a utility quad (Kawasaki 220 Bayou) that I desperately wanted to be a sport one. Still a lot of fun sliding around a curve on a gravel road at full steering lock. It's amazing I waited to graduate to sportbikes before I started hurting myself...

I think it depends on how and where you ride. I do mostly trail riding and hill climbing, and I couldn't imagine giving up 200cc for better handling. If you are 6 feet or over take a serious look before buying a 450, 6'+ riders don't fit well in general.

Stay away from the Raptor, go with the 450(Honda or Yamaha).

I am 6'+ and rode it on fireroads and in the woods a couple of times. I still maintain it had a lousy chassis.

How do I ride? Not so well I guess...
