| Re: 2006 R1 LE Especially when we all know the dealers will be putting outrageous markups over the MSRP on the bikes.
Not only that, but with identical bodywork and no upgrades other than a few bolt-ons, one could make an "LE" for less than the MSRP markup, let alone the dealer upcharge.
And the customer-made "LE" would have a shock and forks sprung to their weight, rather than having to re-spring them after the purchase. |

| Re: 2006 R1 LE I say you purchase the standard model R1. Make all the aftermarket upgrades with the leftover cash. You now have a custom bike. You cant anymore of a "LE" then that. Hell you will most likely even save a few $$$ in the process. |

Yamaha doesn't care if they don't sell. They just want them on the showrooms so that they are race a better bike in SuperStock

$2500 for custom valved forks
$1000 for custom valved shock
$2000 for wheels
$800-1200 for slipper clutch
Do the math guys, you're off base. How much is that 999 with Showa suspension???, And they make more than 1000 of those. You guys can't afford it that's all. |

there's a limited edition Duc 999 with Showa suspension I thought the high end Ducs had Ohlins.

First off, your prices are on the high end of things.
Second, your prices add up to $18,300. Again, LESS than MSRP of the 'LE'. Every dealer will mark them up from there.
Anyone that buys one thinking they're getting a deal deserves it.
Do the math, it ain't worth it. Thanks for proving my point.
And afford it? If you only knew.
EDIT: I forgot about those two extra pounds that the 'LE' has over the standard model. That's priceless as well.
Oh, and it looks like according to Yamaha's website that the MSRP is only $18000 now, not $18500. So that puts us $300 over at those prices. Of course, a standard model R1 is only $11,299 so that puts us back under the 'LE'.
Again, not even close to being worth it.

$3500 for a set of Ohlins with valving is not to terrible of course he makes one bad assumption. They will be tuned for the bike but not necessarily your weight.
$2000 for wheels, not sure but it sounds close
$800-1200 for a slipper clutch
Again like CBR929RE says you can sell OEM parts but these numbers do not include labor, fluid and gaskets. Y'all are assuming that you put the parts on, trust me the world is full of folks that don't change their own oil.
Also this is an OEM package and thus will be warranted by Yamaha as such. Also as I said in the past there is a bling factor of having a true limited edition bike (or a duc or bmw)
Not saying I would buy one but they will sell. |

| Re: 2006 R1 LE The bike never was $18,500. It was $18K the day they released pricing. How do you guys know that the Ohlins stuff will need to be redone?, you don't.
I will not be marking up the price on these bikes.
Showa suspension Ducs are $18K and Ohlins suspension on an S model is several thousand dollars more. |

| Re: 2006 R1 LE f we could buy one here in Aus for $18000 US, I'd buy have my 954 in for a trade in tomorrow...
But then, our R1's/cbr1000rr etc go for about $15200 US for the standard models. I think you guys get litre bikes cheaper than we get 600's...

It's common knowlege that suspension have to be sprung to the rider's weight in order to function properly. I suppose there is the off chance that you fall into the 130 lb Japanese test rider category, but it's prolly slim. I know I don't.
2500 for a set of Ohlins suberbike forks, okay. Fine. That's "fair". Or I can ship the originals to Stig Peterson or Dan Kyle, or Thermosman, and have them rebuild the set for about 700.

| Re: 2006 R1 LE R1 LE = bad deal
All the other man's, like Aprilia, you get the wheels and Ohlins for the price of the mark-up, but then you get other stuff like Carbon and motor parts for free. It makes it worth it.
What really sucks is that Yamaha owns Ohlins, you'd think they get a deal on the stuff and could use it to a competitive advantage.

| Re: 2006 R1 LE I am really curious---how does anyone know that the "custom" valving is worth a ****--if its valved for a streetbike, it will be too stiff for the track and vice-versa---Not to mention, as previously mentioned the spring rates will undoubtably need to be changed. But the funniest thing is that this goof is pushing an R1 on a fireblades sight. And 17" forged Al Marchesinis--why bother?? |

It is still a better deal than the 30k 999 you can buy, but a little to close an the 1000cc MV that is available. I love bikes and wanted to buy one if it did not go over 15k |
