| Re: 2006 R6 in the flesh Nope, I'm going to wait. I want to copy the paint, and I think I'll get the extra $300 back when I e-bay the plastics.
And yes phobe, that was ugly. |

Ya for sure you could get 1200... maybe even hold out for 15. Gotta wait until guys start wrecking them though... so like 3 or 4 days. |

Should be hitting the track this month. I can't wait to see him on the track on it. His current race bike is a 02 R6 that he really rides the wheels off of to take wins. Next season though he's stepping up to expert so it should be pretty sweet. As far as his deal, not sure haven't asked him yet what he got it for.

| First Ride Report Well last night I had my turn at riding the 06 R6. As in the title to my PM to LTL, only three words can describe it...OH MY LORD!
When you first look at it, it seems fat in the front end. What can you expect from the two(bright) headlights that take up most of the fairing. The ram air duct is pretty bitchin'. The bike actually overall looks larger when un-piloted. Once you sit on it though it's a different story. Moving the bike around under human power while seated is so simple. This thing feels like a feather between the legs. My poor 600RR felt like a pig when I got back on it. We alreday took the huge ugly plate holder off, and then decided to remove the pillion pegs as well. That right there made it look like a completely different animal. Gauge placement is spot on. Seeing that 17,500rpm redline is pretty cool as well. Comfort is much better than my 600RR, the seat is padded in the right places and like my RR the reach to the bars is fairly short. I like the short reach, it lets me stick my elbows out a bit more and allows me better feel.
Once fired up the exhaust note it quite good at idle. It revs freely and has a slight growl in the induction system. The fly-by-wire feels like a normal throttle. The slightest tap on the shifter and you are in gear ready to roll. The factory adjustment on the clutch is such that the lever travles way out before you begin your journey. Once moving at parking lot speeds you instantly notice how light the steering is and it is very manuverable. I pulled onto the streets and was ready to get excited. Power down low is very minimal at best. Granted my RR is geared -1, +2, so the R6 felt very flat and sluggish. Once over 6000 rpm it responds much better and begins to show it's potential. Out of respect for the owner and the break in period I was not willing to rev over 10, 000 rpms. Let me say this however. At 8000-9000 this thing rips. Pulls as hard if not harder than my RR with previously mentioned gearing, a full Yosh, PC, and K&N. I couldn't believe this thing comes stock like this. I took a little spin around the block and when I turned off the main road onto a side street I about shat myself. I thoough my RR corners......this thing puts my bike to shame with it's easy of turning. However, it is a bit twitchy under power. Every R6 I have ever ridden has been this way. This one is much better than previuos years but not as solid as my RR.
The brakes are fantastic and have way more power than I'd ever need for my slow ass. When you get on the throttle the induction sound is unreal. Sounds killer. The exhaust note is sweet as well. I'd venture to say I probably wouldn't put a pipe on it if I owned one. I wouldn't want to mess up the pure evil sound it omits. This thing ssure is comfy though. Much better than the RR's while riding. In a tuck you can get really low. Your arms grab the tank in the perfect place too. Now for the best part........slipper clutches rule. Every production bike should come standard with one. It was my first time riding a bike with one and man if I had the coin I'd get one for my RR in a heartbeat. It's an odd(to me)feeling when you grab some downshifts and let it out and it just smoothly slows you. No chatter or hopping at all. I wish he had more mileage on it cause I really wanted to get on it and see what it's got up top. I've already been promised a few laps around the track and I'm not quite sure I want to. I'm affraid it would make me have impure thoughts about my RR.
LTL, and others who may be waiting on your R6...I HATE YOU. I'm so jealous. It's well worth the wait..IMHO. |

Good write-up Reaper. Better, in fact, than the recent moto magazine track-waltzes. Someone ought to print this out and send it to Honda R and D with directions for turning it into a suppository. |
