cabbage996 : Like i've said before, if the new r1 has 180hp I'll suck a goat's dick on the 50 yard line of a college football game. *Everyone lies about their new bikes and honda seems to be the worst of all. *i remember when the 929 came out it was supposed to be like 155 rwhp and it ended up being like 130. *I'll stay on my slow ass 996 with 114 hp and whip all them giggleheads on the new r1's, #### i'll whip all their asses on my sv.
| I didn't read anything about Honda claiming the 929 to have 155hp at the wheel. *I did read 150-155hp at the crank, though, which is why I would guess that if Yamaha can claim 180hp with RAM air assist, they're probably talking crank-numbers (huh-huh), and they might be putting 150-155hp to the ground.
EDIT: As I said in another thread, though, I think the Gixxer1000 is still going to be in the hunt. I would imagine all of the bikes are going to be close to 150hp at the rear-wheel. |

| Re: 2004 R1 Yep Cabbage, get ready to suck it...of course, as a twin rider you'll probably like it. *It is very likely the new liter bikes will make 180Hp at the crank, just like a 929 makes 150 there. You ASSumed it meant RWHP, but they don't claim that. |

luvtolean : It is very likely the new liter bikes will make 180Hp at the crank, just like a 929 makes 150 there.
| Well, at least one of them will.
Of course, when someone throws one on a dyno and it 'only' puts a little over 150 to the wheel, people will bitch about it (as if it's not enough power).
Remember that Yamaha's '180 HP at the crank' claim is with the 'ram air' effect, meaning they must have attempted to simulate the bike's power output at speed by forcing air into the airbox. (They make no attempt to hide this information.) The HP number withou the ram air effect is in the low 170's.
The ZX10 isn't getting attention because there's no information (official, hype, or otherwise) floating about as there has been with the Yamaha and Honda. The new Kaw will surely be sweet. A dealership guy I talked with says it feels tiny; smaller than the 6RR - and it's rumored to have class-leading handling. Power will definitely be up there; Kawasaki never seems to fall short on power with a new model.
bda (and booth), your sarcasm/jealousy is so old and stale that it smells of mold! Get over it already. |

| Re: 2004 R1 Oh, poor wittle tazzy doesn't like me making fun of his favorite bikey wikey?
FACT: If ANY manufacturer (yes including your precious Yamaha) makes claims regarding horsepower and/or weight, they will be grossly exaggerated. Sure Yamaha says 180 at the crank with Ram-air assist. What that really means is 170. They don't have a way to test real world ram-air, so that's their legal out. Without the ram-air assist the bike will be lucky to break 160 at the crank.
Yamaha's weight claim is already heavy. Add the actual weight to it, and it's even more overweight. It's also butt-ugly.
All the 'big bikes' will have around 150-160 RWHP.
Oh yeah, except the Honda. Honda has no history of making horsepower, therefore the new RR will have the least, right?
Any word on the new, reworked Honda that you have all the secret details on? Have you been back at the Honda factory talking it over with the engineers to make sure they have all your ideas?
I'm still betting the real rear wheel figures will be Kawasaki first, Honda second, Suzuki third and Yamaha fourth.
Time for you to put your money where your mouth is or quit your stale crap. |

Dear Guppies,
Cabbage is only here to torment me. He's my racing buddy. All exagerations of HP, etc. are for entertainment purposes. It does, however give me an opportunity to post one of my favorite pics: http://members.fireblades.org/tigerb...20version).JPG

| Re: 2004 R1 Yeah Cabbage, you are right, the new Honda will be down on power and the R1 will rule the world. Ask BDA about the new R1, he is our resident expert. According to him and his ultra secret sources at Yamaha, it's actually going to make 200 HP at the crank, and Yamaha is contemplating getting the FIM to bend the rule book and let Rossi race it in GP next year. If that bike was here I would just jackoff and cum all over it

Yeah the Honda 1000 will be underpowered just like the 600RR is---realtively to the 5 HP less R6 and the 10HP less Kawi--- |

Time for you to put your money where your mouth is or quit your stale crap.
| Okay BDA116,
Hey - you're late! I made that 'put up or shut up' challenge last week; I thought your failure to bite meant you were backing off.
In any case, let's make it a nice, friendly $20.
Let's leave Kawasaki and Suzuki out of this; nothing has been said about the ZX10, and I think the core of our argument is Honda vs. Yamaha, agreed?
So - the suggested terms of the bet:
As detailed in the first 'real' head-to-head comparison test by a reputable media outlet (magazine, etc.)...
If the Yamaha is shown to have more RWHP than the Honda, I win.
If the Honda has more RWHP than the Yamaha, you win.
(It's already been said that it's likely the Honda will have a higher peak torque number, so there's no torque argument; that doesn't seem to be your beef, anyway.)
Do you want to PayPal me the cash now, or after the comparison tests start to come out?
Of course, I beleive it was you that claimed that the 954 makes more RWHP than the '02/'03 R1, so I'm a bit skeptical that a consensus will be had. I fully expect you to have excuses like:
'Yeah, but that Yamaha was a factory ringer.'
or 'That Honda was a Friday bike.'
or 'Yeah, but so-and-so's 1000RR beat so-and-so's '04 R1 on my local dyno...'
or 'The ambient temperature rose two degrees before they tested the RR.'
or something llike that...
All that said, I hope you're taking this all in good fun. The R1 really isn't even my favorite bike. For looks, I'd go Agusta MV, for comfy backroad touring, I'd go ST1300, and for trackdays, I'd get a new Suzuki 750 or ZX6. I'd really hoped for better from Honda; I wanted the new RR to be the lightest, most powerful, and best-looking '04 literbike, and it seems clear it's not going to be any of those. But even if the R1 ends up making more power than the RR, it doesn't mean it'll be a better bike. I think the RR is going to handle with the best of 'em - and ompared to the Zooky, Kaw, and Honda, the R1 might even have the WORST handling in the class (not that it would mean the R1's handling was BAD, not by any stretch - it's just that bar is getting raised to entirely new levels, thanks to the Gixxer leading the way). The RR will likely have the great brakes typical of recent Honda literbikes, and although it won't be a very good streetbike, the RR is going to rip on the racetrack. My whole argument is based on the prediction that the RR will only fall short when it comes to RWHP.
As it is, I'm really contemplating an '04 Gixxer 750, for track-only duty. Sure, it's funny, but the 'Tazzy loves the R1' just isn't my MO. I'm not saying the R1 is the best, and it ain't precious, either. I'm just predicting it's going to make more horsepower than the 1000RR, and in case you haven't noticed, the large majority (even on Fireblades.org) thinks the Yam beats the RR in the looks department. It's not even close, in my mind. One guy (damn, I forget who! compared the RR to the Chevy Avalanche for its funky, crap-tacked-on design! LOL - so true! I guess I just don't understand why you take such issue with either viewpoint. Did you put a non-refundable deposit on an RR or something?
P.S. Next spring, you can thank me for not taking more than $20 from you! (So do we have a virtual handshake, or do you want to modify the terms somehow?) |

If a little girly bet is what you want, sure I'll take your twenty.
What 'reputable' magazine are you talking about? There isn't one. You would choose something like RRW, where they hate Honda more than you. You want a general consensus of the 'big' mags like Cycle World, Sport Rider, Motorcyclist, Bike, etc.?
I'd be glad to take your money at anytime.

| Listen, foo! 'Little girly bet' nothin! Since all this BS is based on speculation and prediction, it's just a little stupid to be putting more than a few bucks on such a guess. I hear the guys in Honda R&D are working overtime to try and get the power figures up, so anything could happen.
But anyway, yeah. $20. Consensus of the popular rags is fine. RWHP, R1 versus RR. (I think we'll end up seeing a difference of at least 5 ponies.)
BTW - I don't 'hate Honda', and I don't love Yamama! I've owned plenty of Hondas (seven, versus just two Yamahas), and will undoubtedly own more in my lifetime. I've never owned a Suzuki or Kawasaki. Maybe it's a good time to try one.
booth, you want to put up your own $20, or are you going to merely continue to waste time and space (and practice typing 'blah' and 'R1')? |
