05 R6 sudden sluggish throttle response

Hey guys, I have a buddy with an 05 R6 about 30k miles on it asked me to come look at it today. All of the sudden it has a sluggish throttle response from idle, and once it warms up it gets worse. Even to the point that it backfires when you gun it from idle. It does this under load and in neutral. He has gone through a new tank of gas already and it still does it. I told him to change the fuel filter, the last one was put in 12k miles ago. But I honestly don't think that will fix it. Any clues anybody? Maybe a cam position sensor if that bike even has one? Thanks!

just take the carbs and get them cleaned, the winter can really gum them up

he rides almost everyday throughout the winter too, and the '05 was a fuel injected model.

Re: 05 R6 sudden sluggish throttle response

It definately sounds like a fuelling issue, with bad throttle response and backfiring in the exhaust. Rich running, could be overfuelling through a dodgy sensor or misfiring. What's the history? Did it just happen, or was there something else involved? I don't know the '05 R6, but has it got a malfunction light, showing error codes?

Is it throwing any lights? (Not sure how that system works)...

Has he got a PowerCommander on there?
