'04 R1 On The Road

This morning, I saw a red, '04 R1 up at Angeles Crest. Not sure what Yamaha is thinking - the world launch of the bike is next week! The guy got it from Chapparel, in San Bernardino. They got three bikes in Friday. Gorgeous bike, and of course, all bowed when it showed up......

If it makes you feel any better, there was snow alongside the road and scattered patches of ice in the shaded areas around 5000ft...........

I had to hurry back down to below 3000ft. to warm back up..... It was tough, but I handled it okay........

You rode without us? We rode as far up as Angeles Forest and it was clear of ice and snow. I slipped a little on one little patch of something that was in the shade, but that is all. I thought your motor was toast? One of these Sundays you will have to join us again.

You guys are nuts to ride that over policed road anyway. I stuck to the lower canyons and they were all dry. I'd like to see that new R1. I think I'm almost ready for a new bike.

ULEWZ, I was on a borrowed bike, a V-Strom 650, and was messing around with susension and chassis setups to see how well I could get it to work in the sporting environment, which, as it turned out was pretty well. The limiting factor is the tires that come on it - Bridgestone Trailwings - not exactly track day tires. Besides, I didn't leave the house until 0900. I'll keep you in mind for next weekend, though, whatever I may be on that day.

The 929 motor is definitely toast, and I'm hoping to find a 954 setup locally, or at least semi-locally. So far, the only ones I know about are on the east coast.

OTE, There happened to be only one active cop on the road today, and he was hanging out near the residential end of the road. On the way up, he was giving an Aprilia Mille rider a ticket, and on the way back, it just happened that he was giving another Mille rider a ticket. Maybe his Mille blew up ride outside of warranty or something.....
