BMW is known for its ultimate semi-luxury and luxury car models that never cease to impress. Very new model is launched into a market full of expectations. BMW has been driving high on many of its high end models. The 2009 BMW 6 series is the latest from the BMW factories. The 2009 BMW 6 series model comes in two styles. One is the 6 series 650i convertible while the other is a 6 series 650i coupe. Both are quite powerful and impressive looking vehicles, befitting the luxury car tag with a pricing of about $75,500 - $109,000. For the expensive pricing, does the 6 series deliver in all aspects?
There is not much variation seen in the 2009 models as compared to the 2008 launch, except maybe a few options or the available colors. This is an extravagant 2 door series from BMW, quite similar to the 5 series BMW sedan. The 6 series is a natural performer on the roads, owing to its powerful 4,799 cc V8 engine. The engine capacity is 4.8 liters, with a multi-point fuel injection system. The car delivers about 360 horsepower @ 6300 rpm, making it quite a stallion in all road conditions. Even with so much bulk, the rear drive chassis is well-balanced. This apart, the slick handling and 6 speed manual and automatic transmission come as a delight. The convertible and the coupe respond well to changing gears, while maintaining good ride quality. The brake system offers immediate response, adding to the attributes that make the BMW 6 series a complete road runner.
Performance is more than good. Coming to aesthetics, the interiors are interesting and seating is comfortable at least for the front passengers. The convertible has an electric softtop roof, while luxury trim alloy and leather are used in the cabin. The iDrive system is a slight turn off. The rear seating could have done better with more room. Though there has been an effort to make the car look grand, the swoopy body style is retained in the 2009 6 series.
Safety and stability control features are standard, including ABS, Driver selectable responsive suspension, and Electronic Brake Distribution among others. Fuel economy is just okay, with city/hwy 14 MPG/21 MPG. There was news about a twin turbo 635i, but that hasn’t been seen in the horizon yet. Nevertheless, with a few imperfections and many positive aspects, the coupe and convertible are both engaging cars that offer the promise of performance coupled with luxury.
