Zero to sixty mph in just 5.1 seconds and with a top speed of 155 mph, the Audi S6 is a high performance version of the Audi A6 sedan. Like Audi’s other S models, S6 is a four door 5 passenger luxury wagon. Though mechanically, it is similar to A6, the S6 sedan has paid more attention to its classy interiors.
This sporty car has large 19” x 9” cast aluminum wheels which provide firm grip during fast drives. The car is equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 engine which generates a whopping 435 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 to 4000 rpm. It also comes with six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system which enables effortless handling of the car.
According to Forbes, “The Audi S6’s huge engine, well appointed interior and understated appearance make for an ideal high speed cruiser”. Some reviewers feel S6 offers a comfortable and relaxing drive but they also say that its performance does not measure up to its competitors.
One of the drawbacks of S6 according to reviewers is that it could be a “gas guzzler”.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says S6 is expected to give 14 miles per gallon in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
While the more conventional tiptronic 6-speed automatic has come in for a lot of flak from purists, a review in Forbes magazine says that the automatic “is so smooth that gear changes are almost imperceptible during normal driving”. The speed sensitive steering and the four wheel “huge” brakes have also been appreciated. Rear parking assistance sensors are available at an additional price to prevent accidents while reversing. This is advantageous since it is a long car.
Safety features include, in addition to the required front airbags, seat mounted side impact airbags for front passengers and side curtain bags. An electronic stability system with traction control is another of its unique safety features.
Interestingly, the interiors which include standard equipment like the climate control navigations system, leather upholstery, heated front sporty seats and satellite radio, also include Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI). Most reviewers have commended the MMI which is “more intuitive” than any of the MMI’s available in the market today. The driver behind the wheel of the Audi S6, on highways, is sure to experience a heady sensation as he surges forward. A great way to go!
