2009 BMW 5-Series Review Specs Prices Photos

    October 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · BMW

The 2009 BMW 5 series is expected to retain its position as one of the top ranked large luxury sedans. The German automakers are expected to improve the appearance and offer new powertrain technologies.

While they seem to have retained their not so popular “flame surfacing”, indications for the new series show a more elegant look with a longer wheel base which is nearly 3” more than the earlier models This luxurious sedan though longer, is sleeker to look at.

Wood and leather make the car interiors look plush. The back seat appears roomier and the luggage boot is of a decent size. The dashboard has a new instrument panel and a centre console easily accessible by the driver.

According to a report in the Automobile Magazine “the drive train goes high-tech with brake-energy regeneration teaming with adaptive alternator control” as well as “a start-stop system with an upshot indicator for manual transmissions”. According to US News and World Report preview, BMW has introduced a new system called “active yaw control” to further improve the driving dynamics.

The 2009 BMW 5 series will definitely have new technologies. They are expected to introduce low emission diesel engines along with gas powered engines “topping out with a 408-hp 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 550i”. BMW is also planning to introduce a faster shifting evolution of the current SMG as well as a dual clutch automatic.

The engine lineup is expected to be as follows for the various models:
    • 525i – 3.0-liter six with 238 hp
    • 530i /xi – 3.0-liter six with 272 hp
    • 535i/xi - 3.0- liter six with 306 hp
    • 540i – 4.8-liter V-8 with 367 hp
    • 550i/xi – 4.4-liter V-8 with 408 hp

The BMW 2009 5 series is expected to have a body made up of lighter materials, but they will have a lot of optional add-ons, some of which are rear suspension kinematics, xDrive all-wheel drive with active torque split, active yaw control and electronic damper control systems.

They have retained their best feature - the active roll stabilization. This hi-tech system aids in adjusting the roll stiffness by linking a hydraulic motor between the front and rear anti-roll bars. This makes for optimum safety when taking sharp corners. There is a rush of adrenalin when the car surges forward at incredible speeds. The new Bavarian model promises to be a stylish and sporty beauty.
