The 2009 Toyota Avalon is a comfortably priced family sedan offered in 3 trims this time, with the Japanese giant ditching the Touring trim. The three trims are the XL, XLS and the Limited edition model. The most interesting thing about this car is that it doesn’t make heads turn or roar down the road like the powerful sports cars, but offers a quiet comfort on its own for the average commuting requirements and the occasional outing. You won’t find anything wrong with the car’s aerodynamics, but you won’t find anything out of the box either.
The 3.5 Liter V6 engine is designed well enough to make the sedan glide down the road so quietly that you won’t feel you are driving! The 268 hp is certain, though. A 6-speed automatic transmission helps you with smooth shifting. Fuel economy is good, especially on the highway, with 28 mpg. You start liking this car once you get used to its mild manners on the road. The suspension is built more for smooth drive rather than a sporty feel. It does manage corners easily if you don’t push too hard. This 5-passenger front-wheel driven family sedan has a comfortable acceleration that doesn’t excite but is enough for the need of the hour. Don’t be surprised if the drive lulls your rear seat occupants into sleep. The adjustable recline rear seatbacks contribute to this.
The exteriors look soft, making this sedan appear smaller than other American vehicles of the same dimensions. As always, there is no aggressive feel and the car looks like it requires being balanced on 4 wheels, though it has an okay stance. The 2009 Toyota Avalon impresses mainly because it doesn’t try to impress. The ergonomically planned controls and other options add to the convenience. The interiors are comfortable, with the seats being unbelievably soft. But the interior materials could have been better. Audio system is quite okay, and the Limited trim has a standard feature: 360W JBL Synthesis audio system. The stereo and storage space is cleanly covered in the cabin. The display is crisp for you to look at the speed without straining your eyes. Cargo space is about 14.4 cubic ft, giving you enough room for sundries and junk.
Options include a navigation system for the higher 2 trims. The limited comes with cooled/heated power front seating. Buy the 2009 Toyota Avalon for some $27,845 to $35,185, and you will get used to the quiet and assured presence day after day.
