A cross-country vehicle since almost 30 years, the newest version of the Mercedes-Benz G-class appears like a “safari” car with an almost 30 percent increase in power. The latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz SUV family, the 2009 G-class boasts of new 5.5-liter V8 engines and a user-friendly generation of telematics technology.
The new 2008 2009 Mercedes G-Class consists of two vehicles - Mercedes G500 Light Truck and Mercedes G55 AMG. Both the new cars are dubbed “durable, luxurious and both embody everything that represents the Mercedes-Benz ideal”, says a reviewer.
“The G-Class can be identified by its restyled, three-fin radiator grille, with the G 500 sporting new-look 18-inch light-alloy wheels as an additional distinguishing feature”, according to a company press release. There are three different body variants - short-wheelbase Station Wagon, long-wheelbase Station Wagon and Cabriolet – which are powered by either the fuel-efficient V6 CDI engine generating 165 kW/224 hp and 540 Newton meters or the new 5.5-liter V8 petrol engine with an output of 285 kW/388 hp and 530 Newton meters of torque. The V8 produces an incredible zoom of zero to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds.
“In addition to permanent all-wheel drive with a low-range ratio and the 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission, the standard specification includes the electronically controlled traction system 4ETS, the Electronic Stability Program, as well as three differential locks which can be engaged at the push of a button”, according to the company press release.
Some of the distinctive as well as impressive inclusions are the standard Bluetooth hands-free system for mobile phones, a COMAND APS infotainment system with LINGUATRONIC and six-disc CD changer (standard on the G500), and optional Harmon Kardon Logic7 surround sound system featuring 12 high-performance speakers and 450 watts of unadulterated audio pleasure, according to a review. “COMAND APS also incorporates the new LINGUATRONIC system with extended functionality. The voice-operated control now recognizes whole-word commands, which can be spoken by anyone without the need to train the system first. The system is simply activated by means of a control on the right of the multifunction steering wheel” according to the company press release.
The G-class is by far the longest-serving car model series in the Mercedes-Benz family which is constantly updated keeping in touch with the latest motoring technology. No wonder, it is considered a “worthy means of transport for the Pope”, the press release adds.
