With the stamp of Toyota quality, the Toyota Tundra was launched as the second pickup truck from the company. Ever since its introduction, the vehicle has been gaining rave reviews as a trend setting full-size truck. The vast array of convenience features and the hallmark safety features, this large truck is definitely a good pick. Till date, the Toyota Tundra has been one of the most successful large size pickups in the market today, and as new Car test Drive says on behalf of impressed reviewers, “This truck is simply the smoothest, quietest and most sophisticated truck we’ve ever driven.”
The Tundra is available with many combinations like: 3 wheelbase options, 3 engine levels, 3 bed lengths, and 3 cab styles. Regular Cab (available as Base and SR5), Double Cab (available as Base, SR5, and Limited) and CrewMax (available as Base, SR5, and Limited) are offered for 2009. The 2-door regular cab seats 3 passengers while the 4-door models (extended Double cab and the CrewMax) seat 6 people. Though not meant to tow very heavy cargo, the 2009 Toyota Tundra definitely fits the bill for average pickup requirements with its maximum towing capacity of 10,800 lb.
This truck looks good, but lacks the spice offered by some other similar pickups. Interiors are convenient, but rear room is not quite sufficient for most needs. But yes, the 2009 Tundra definitely looks cozy and compact, with an impression of good body balance.
Engines include a 236 hp V6 engine of capacity 4.0 liters, a 276 hp V8 of capacity 4.7 liters and a 381 hp V8 of capacity 5.7 liters. The 5.7L V8 is an option on all 2009 Toyota Tundra models. Performance is good, and the truck reminds you of the Avalon. The truck manages to turn bends with ease, with its impressive turning radius that makes complicated maneuvers a cakewalk. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard on the V6 and the V8 (4.7L) while the 5.7L engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifts.
Rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive systems are available for all Tundra models but for off-road requirements, there is a low-range gear. With loaded packages for 2009, the Tundra is an exemplary full-size truck. Two special Toyota Racing Development packages are available as options, along with a Sport Package (with unique wheel design and paint choice). Also available is the optional Rock Warrior package with special wheels and ‘ready for off-road’ suspension tuning. Top class safety features, convenient styling and solid performance make this pickup a perfect truck from Toyota.
