Help! Ticking noise on left side of engine driving me nuts. Came on after I did an oil change. Fresh oil and filter. 10w-40 Mobile synthetic 4T used. It gets louder as the engine heats up. Pretty prominent around 215*F. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bike has 24k for mileage
Hi, the only reason I can think of for the clicking to start after an oil change is that maybe one of the header pipes might have been loose, and in extracting the filter you could have moved it, if you have one of those incense sticks in the house light it and hold the stick toward each header set of bolts(with the engine running) and watch the smoke the stick gives off, if its blowing you will see the effect, as you can gather I'm an old hippie:wink
The noise sounds like its coming from the Alternator area and cylinder 1 about half way up. The sound gets louder as the engine heats up. It has me completely baffled and hoping it is nothing major going on. I'll try the incense on the exhaust to rule out any exhaust leaks. I like the idea!
are you getting any faults? not sure where the Servo motor is on the 954, but on the 929 its about the same area you described, left side. and the noise was prominent.
No faults. Not sure where the servo motor is located but I can check that as well. I was going to pull all the spark plugs and turn the motor over by hand to see if I can hear the clicking. I'm really hoping it isn't anything major.
Well, problem solved! Changed the oil again and went to a 15w-50 oil. Nice and quiet. Our temps have been hot and an adequate warm up before the ride. The noise had me a little concerned. All is well and the 954 is running like a champ!!! Thanks for the help, much appreciated!!!
