To buy or not to buy...?

Hey all. I have the opportunity to buy a Scotts stabilizer for my 954, but I'll have to buy the mounting hardware. The seller wants $200 USD for just the stabilizer itself. Worth the buy? He says he put lock tight on the bolts and can't remove the mount now. Let me know what you think. Oh, 1000 miles on the stabilizer.

Re: To buy or not to buy...?

The bolts can be taken out, unless he put the wrong loc-tite in there.

If he did ask him how he is going to change plugs, air filter,etc......

$200 is a good price

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

Re: To buy or not to buy...?

See what he can do to verify that he actualy has a mount "stuck" on his bike. Sounds fishy, perhaps stolen.

Re: To buy or not to buy...?

I had great difficulty removing my Scotts damperenerer from my 600rr. I'd used blue Loctite on the set screws, and stripped and/or twisted three different allen wrenches trying to loosen them. I wound up just leaving the damn thing on the bike when I sold it. So...the story doesn't sound that fishy to me.

His bike had done about 4 triple gainers before he sold it, so they were probably "wrenched" in a little tighter than spec . . .

Re: To buy or not to buy...?

The mounting kit goes around $100. online for any application. Your $200 investment will still come in under the $400 the damper was new with the kit included. I have well over 1000 miles on my damper and still funtions properly, dont let the miles scare you, that is less than one riding season.

Please tell me how you'd go about torquing down those little-bitty set screws that you can hardly get a wrench on in the first place.
