Fork swap question for F4.

I just picked up '05 1000rr forks as mine on my F4 are bent and I'm wanting to swap to inverted forks. I understand the whole front end will have to be swapped out but I'm uncertain on a few things so I'm hoping the others who have done it on here can clarify (I've tried searching but don't feel I found my answer.)

Now the forks that I got came with the front axle and the lower triple. Will the lower triple work with the F4 as long as I have the 1000rr top triple as well? Will I need to modify anything to make it fit properly? Or do I need to use the 929/954 triples and steering stem with the 1000rr forks?

Another question is: do I have to use the 1000rr front wheel or am I able to just swap rotors?

Thank you for any help I can get. I just want this swap to go as smooth as possible.

Re: Fork swap question for F4.

You need to change the steering head bearings. Allballs should have a set that will work with the f4 frame and 954/1000rr triples. You will need wheel from a 929/954/1000RR and discs from 04-05 1000rr. Brake calipers you can use from any 1000rr. You can use either 04-07 1000RR or 929/954 triples but you can't mix them because the angle of them is different. If you use spacers you can allso use 06-07 1000rr 320mm discs or 929/954 330mm discs.

Re: Fork swap question for F4.

Wow thanks for the info. That basically answered everything. I was hoping the bearing would fit just fine. I'll check out allballs then.

I was hoping i could save money on the wheel but I guess not. At least the wheels look somewhat similar.

One more question though. Will the steering stops on the lower triple need to be ground down? I read somewhere that some guys did it when doing the conversion.

Re: Fork swap question for F4.

There is a chance that the bearings fit to triples that you have but can't say that for sure. The axle on the 1000RR could be same size but i don't know. I drive a highly modified 954. If you press the F4 axle to 1000RR lower triple you can use the bearings for sure. And allso.you have to check the lenght of the axle on 1000RR.

I wouldn't grind the stoppers before trying how much it turns. And yes, you need a 929/954 or 04-07 1000RR front wheel. Allso RC51 front wheels have the right bolt pattern for the front discs but it's not a bolt on to the 1000RR forks.

I checked Allballs and the bearing kit is same for F4 and 1000RR and it comes with outer races so with that kit it will fit for sure. It was about 30 $.

Re: Fork swap question for F4.

Just was finally able to check All Balls (wasn't working on my phone) seems it's the same part number for both the f4 and the 1000rr so it should bolt right up. I know the stem length will be fine. The only thing will be just to mount riser clip ons under the top triple so there is enough room.

Now I'm just debating on whether to get a 1000rr or 954rr wheel...hmm
