GSXR parts to upgrade my F3?

Ok.. hold the phone. I was doing a search on ways to upgrade the performance of my F3. I'll be purchasing a FOX shock to have resprung and revalved to my weight to stick out back... then I saw somewhere "replace your front brakes and forks with the calipers and forks from any year GSXR 600". Is this a legit upgrade? Not really trying to put Suzuki parts on my Honda.... but if it's a difference maker.... I dunno. Thoughts?

It's not the speed that kills you... It's the sudden stop.

Re: GSXR parts to upgrade my F3?

The thing about putting GSXR brakes and forks on the F2/F3 is you need everything from the Suzuki, the handle bars, master cylinder, upsidedown forks, calipers, front wheel, rotors, triple clamps. Then AllBalls can get you the bearing that allows the Suzuki parts to match the Honda frame. Then on top of all that, the Suzuki forks are shorter and the handle bars mount below the triple clamps which now the fairing is in the handle bars way. Aint no use using just any GSXR forks, go upside down or not at all. There were a couple of guys from Georgia who raced F2/F3 and won championships and swore the best front end for these bikes are the ones that come on them, properly set up for the riders weight etc. of course. My dream bike build would be a F2 with 98gsxr 750 front end, cbr 900 engine and rear wheel conversion, and finally 08+ cbr 1000rr fairing.

Ok so we have the new 2015 R1, the new S1000RR 2015, the new ZX10R 2016, H2R, the new CBR 1000, the Duke 1299, the new 2017 R6, the new RSV4, 2017 GSXR1000. All of these dream bikes giving me wet dreams and your dream bike is a mut? Even you confirmed yourself that your CBR1000 ran circles around your F2 lap time and that's what you want to be your dream bike. My dream bike is the 2016 R1 in matte grey, with full Ohlin's suspension, Graves full TI exhaust, Graves rearsets, Flashed ECU, Driven grips, Scotts damper, OZ gas rims, Spiegler brake lines, Brembo MC and clutch perch, Brembo mono block calipers, EBC extreme pro pads, ram air modification, dyno time, some carbon fiber bits, keyless gas cap, techspec snake skin, smoke puig or zero gravity screen and my life would be complete... I've thought about parting out my current R1 to make this dream a reality but dam it I love that bike...

I could understand if you stated a stock mint condition F2, now that's sexy. It make sense for people who just wants a classic. But what the hell is the point to spend all that money when you can have a better bike around the same price range.

OP, the F3 is a great bike though. If you go into my build thread, you'll see the love affair I had with that bike. Overall I spent around $5000 to make the bike fast on the track by addressing the functional distractions it had. There are some great mods you can make while still keeping the price down. 900rr MC mod, SS brake lines, good pads (I really like ebc extreme pro's), rearsets, definitely the fox shock, Racetech springs, R6 throttle tube, sticky tires like the Q3's. The mods I listed were the most beneficial to me while I tracked it. And if when you want more power, you can go into the air box by adding a better air filter, full race headers, and proper jetting... I had my dream bike until it broke my collar bone... Hold up... OK I see where Frank is coming from

Great thanks for the responses guys, I definitely won't be going with a Suzuki front end considering all that is entailed? Plus F guys that raced said the Honda front end was the best for this bike I believe it. Thanks for all the ideas to mod the bike correctly.

Re: GSXR parts to upgrade my F3?

There was just something special about the F2's & F3's that the other Big 3 Jap companies could match. The steel frames & swingarms, the small diameter conventional forks, the upright riding position, none of it made sense. So much more than the sum of those parts. In the 600cc class from 91 to 98, if you werent on a Honda you were racing for 2nd place.

Re: GSXR parts to upgrade my F3?

I think 1995 Duhamel won every 600 race except for the 2 that his teammate Mike Hale won. The Smoking Joe Honda Team liked the F2's and F3's way better than the F4's. They were paid to say the newest bike was better than last years bike but years later the truth came out how the F4's sucked compared to the F2's & F3's.

Re: GSXR parts to upgrade my F3?

But actually other teams, riders and manufactures won the 600 SuperSport championship in the 90's. Miguel won it in 91 on the F2, then he won it on a Kawasaki, I thought Tom Kipp won it on the F2, not sure. Jamie James won it in 94 on Yamaha. Then Miguel for Honda again after wasting a year of his life riding for Harley Davidson. Steve Crevier won it on a Suzuki but maybe that was the F4 years. Did Aaron Yates win it on a Suzuki, I thought so but not sure. Anyhow, now I'm rattling on and on.

I agree, made it to Laguna Seca a few times that decade. All weekend in Monterey, days spent at the track, watching from under a tree at the Corkscrew, nights cruising Cannery Row, good times!

Reference for what? That the Smoking Joe Honda team won every AMA 600 SuperSport race in 1995, and Miguel won all of them but the 2 his teammate won. Is that what you're asking. If so, yes. Give me a couple days to dig through my old SportRider magazines. Its in one of them where the Honda team let Jason Black from SportRider ride Miguels 600 at Willow Springs. It was 95 or 96 because Mike Hale didnt stick around AMA long and went World SuperBike on a Ducati
