Quiet exhaust systems

Hey everyone! New member here. I recently purchased a 1993 600F2 off a co-worker that wasn't running. While pulling the carbs off for and look over and cleaning I found the fuel line between the petcock and carbs was clogged up. After clearing the lines the bike fired right up which now leads to my question.. Its currently wearing a Yoshimura slip on that is a little louder than I prefer. Which aftermarket exhausts are on the quieter side? I'd even take a lead for a factory type muffler if anyone knows where I can come across such a thing? Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Quiet exhaust systems

Im also considering repacking the muffler currently installed to see if it makes any difference. What type of packing have you guys used? Have you found any to be better than others? Anyone tried FMF packing material?

Re: Quiet exhaust systems

Just put an original factory silencer back on, plenty out there for sale on eBay and they're not expensive

Re: Quiet exhaust systems

Did you check to see if the Yoshi system on there now had a silencer/baffle/insert in the muffler that was removed by the previous owner?

If so, you could probably find a replacement silencer/insert to stick back in the end of the tailpipe to keep things quiet (disregard if the above does not apply to your Yoshi canister).

Re: Quiet exhaust systems

Im not real familiar with aftermarket exhausts on motor cycles but I did give it a look over this morning and I didn't see any mounting holes for an insert. I also looked for an identifier on the muffler itself to see which model it is but was unable to find one, although I will admit I didn't look very hard. From searching available exhaust systems it would seem the RS3 is the only one offered (or at least still available) for the F2. On a side note I know everyone loves pictures so here are a few from the day I went to look at the bike.

Re: Quiet exhaust systems

This is the Yoshimura exhaust that can handle the insert:

I don't believe yours can due to how the end cap is angled.

You could always go and ask Yoshimura though.

Re: Quiet exhaust systems

Thank you for the suggestions. I may just try to re-pack the muffler or else replace it with a stock unit. I think in time I could warm up to the Yoshimura. I'm just not use to riding a loud bike and I'm also not a fan of the negitive attention and angry neighbors it can bring. I live in a quiet little valley and don't want to be "that guy", plus I like to keep em low key in case the Law is near by when I open her up.

Re: Quiet exhaust systems

Typically a Yosh of that era would have been relatively "quiet" compared to others. Drill the rivets out and pull the baffle out. Get some automotive "muffler packing", generally just some special fiberglass wadding and wrap it around the screen (assuming your screen is still in there).

The Yosh I had on my Hurricane was a complete system, but had an off set baffle in the muffler. It had a good sound, and wasn't overly "shrieky".

Every muffler, or "can" I've had since have been a straight shot through the can, no offer baffle. My suggestion is based on the straight through can.
