Anybody ever shorten up a D&D or any other slip-on?

I want it about 4"~6" shorter. If I could do it and not make it any louder, I'll do it Saturday, but I really don't want it a lot louder.

Well, looks like I'm gonna need to buy another muffler to experiment on. My bike runs great now, and it's just right as far as noise, so I don't wanna chance doing something I can't undo without costing me a fortune. I've scratch built a muffler for my (expansion chambered, weedeater motor powered) R/C boat that really worked well, so I may even try building something from scratch, or from a cheap Ebay piece.
