1st time in the rain

2002 f4i....got caught for the first time in the rain while at work. i coverd the front over the handle bars and the gauges with a plastic bag while it rain. driving home it was raining very lightly. when i was stopped at red lights i noticed a little smoke or steam(not sure) coming from the front by the radiator. my engine temp was fine running at like 175...the bike ran perfect the whole way home..any ideas on the smoke?? was it just from the water??? thanx

Just steam... nothing to worry about

As long as I fall, I don't hit the ground. As long as I fall, I'm safe & sound.

Re: 1st time in the rain

Ok I need to ask why did u cover things with a plastic bag???

they are designed to get wet....I can understand when you cover yr boots (if they not waterproof).

As Sideshow says - just steam.

Re: 1st time in the rain

It was steamed @ you for trying to smother it with a plastic bag!

Your bike is fine...

Re: 1st time in the rain

No worries and as was less kindly stated don't worry on the gauges. Maybe take an old towel and dry it a bit when you get home but otherwise no problem I just washed my RR and when I was done drying it I put it on a rear stand to spin the chain dry, so you know I am more paranoid than most. The big thing in rain is slow and smooth on all the inputs (gas, brake, turnin...) otherwise it is a less pleasant version of all riding

Must obey the sheep dog

Re: 1st time in the rain

I CURSE the rain! But it is just steam from water hitting the exhaust manifold. The radiator holds tons of water. Got drenched a few nights ago. and still had about 15 miles till home. Figured I couldn't get any wetter, and went on with it. I don't mind getting wet so much, it is that I have to detail the bike the second I get home!

Re: 1st time in the rain

first time wow!!!
where i live you learn in the rain and get to play on dry days!!!
dude no need to cover it up its waterproof!!
steam just coming off the rad!
when riding in the wet best to just relax, Don't stiffen up it makes you liable to react wrong and over compensate when correcting slides etc..

Re: 1st time in the rain

I feel your pain NDM. Rained on me again tonight! Can't wait for those dry winter days.

It took me a few water logged events to be comfortable in the wet. And comfortable might be over doing it. More like threading needles. Only took one time on a semi wet road, spin the rear enough to wander at about 50mph and that'll learn ya real quick. Might have done 1/4 throttle in 3rd. Total Highside material! The throttle crack is your enemy in the slick! Stay super smooth!
