overheating.. changed the fuse, still overheats.

my bike was overheating, so of course i checked the fuse, and it was blown. I switched the fuse, and it's still overheating. When i got back from my ride, I let the bike sit idle for a bit, and the fan doesn't seem to kick on.. any ideas?

If the fuse for the fan keeps blowing, check for a stone lodged in it or possibly a short in the wiring...

If it still doesn't work after doing what Red said, see that the fan spins freely with your hand. If it's tight, either you disassemble it and try to free up the bushings or replace it. If it is shorted internally, it will likely have a burnt smell.

Thermo fan switch located on the radiator. remove the leads and connect them to each other. Turn on ignition. If fan rotates, bad switch.

While it's another good test, a bad thermal switch generally doesn't blow a fuse. Grey didn't indicate if the fuse was blown again after the ride.

Unless you have a short in the power wire, chances are you need a fan motor.
