CBR600F3 running problems

I've got an 1997 CBR600f with the following problems:

- It will start ok when cold with choke on, but if I touch the throttle, it will die.

- When hot, starting is much worse than when cold and if I touch the choke or the throttle it will die instantly. It wont start with the choke off even when hot.

Any input where to start fixing her? I've checked the valve clearances and next thing I can think of is to pull the carbs and go thru them.

All input will be appreciated

Thanks,

-Tom-

Do you mean that it won't take throttle with the choke on once it's warmed up? It shouldn't take throttle while it's still cold.
When hot you should not use any throttle when starting. If you spray starter fluid into the intakes and it starts then my guess is the pilot circuits are blocked.
Has the bike been sitting for any length of time?

Re: CBR600F3 running problems

Sorry mate if I was a bit vague...

When warmed up it wont start without any choke, and If I close the choke it will die instantly. And it wont take any throttle with choke on and warmed up.

When cold, with choke on, it will idle a bit better, but it dies very easily if try give her any gas.

The bike has been sitting for a year.

The plugs were changed 1000km ago with the air filter.

Br,

Re: CBR600F3 running problems

clean the carbs sounds like your not getting past the idle jet..take the carbs out and take your time cleaning them. Bike has been sitting for a year, gas left in the floats/jets have gummed up....I got several of them and that's usually solves the problem, I also work at a mtc shop

Re: CBR600F3 running problems

Thanks guys,

I've been a bit busy lately so no progress with the bike. I'll open the carbs and give'em a good clean.

Other way round. The pilot circuits operate while the throttles are closed.

Yes, understanding how engines work is a big part of my life.
It's much more satisfying than simply guessing at how they work :-)

Re: CBR600F3 running problems

Just an update on the topic:

I bought a set of used carbs from ebay for 100 bucks and bolted them on. The bike has never started so easily and ran so well. I know took a bit of a risk not to check the new carbs thru, but anyways all is good now.

what a pain in the donkey to put the carbs back though. I'll stick to fuel injected bikes from now on.

thanks guys for all the help
