weird problem

got a little problem, at the back end of my bike on the side is dripping yellow sticky resin type stuff, seems to be dripping from the bottom of the little black box (cdi?) when i clean it away it comes back when the bike is hot after riding.. its getting on my nerves!!

i could try to take the back bodywork off but looks hard to get off. anyone got an idea if its a big problem or seen this before? thx

Re: weird problem

that is the resin inside the cdi (used to seal and keep dry the electrical components)by the sounds of things,if its getting hot and melting then that really isnt a good sign, either the cdi is on its way out and over heating or you've got to much power going through it wich in either case by now will probably require a new cdi (wich unfortunatly arent cheap).might be worth checking your regulator as well because if thats the problem that would need fixing first or you'l have the same problem again

Paul, which side is this on? If it's on the right side (exhaust) then it's the reg/rec. If its leaking from the black box on the left side, then it's the Cdi.

Absolutely it's a daft place to put it, but Honda's not alone. I've heard some guys have tried putting cooling fans on them, but with mixed results.
