New bike no spark need help

Hey guys, new here. I have a 1999 CBR 900 that i picked up pretty cheap. The problem with the bike is I am not getting any spark but I am getting power to the coils. Any suggestions? Also the bike does not have a gauge cluster hooked up onto it. I know some bikes you need one to start the bike. Is the cbr 900 like that?

Re: New bike no spark need help

Normally the the harness is like a circuit and needs to be connected to the light cluster and speedo etc to make said circuit.

Do, or do not, there is no try !

I can't say for sure but I'd be surprised if you needed the cluster to run the engine.

On my 07 if you don't have the harness connected up to the front cluster then it does not complete the electrical circuit and the bike won't start, not sure about other models.

That's good to know Jazzy.
The 929 and 954 don't have that problem.

Re: New bike no spark need help

Seems like a poor design to me. Getting a fault in a non-essential part of the bike leaves you stranded ... excellent.

If the bike isn't braking properly, you don't start by rebuilding the engine.
