New to the CBR world

Hey everyone. I'm a new honda owner (old bike). I've got a Ducati that I track, a BMW that I street, and I've just picked up a CBR929RR that I'm going to track as well.
When I got the bike the owner told me the stator was shot. I've boosted the battery and had it running but it'll only run for about a minute (idles a little fast but running good). Then dies. No restarting until its been sitting for a while (I usually try the next morning). Checked for pinched fuel lines (I actually have the tank elevated just in case). Drained fuel and added new, checked fuel regulator and fuses. All fine. Fuel pump primes every time and no swooshing in the tank (sign of broken fuel line). Tank is clean. I've not removed to replace the fuel filter yet. I checked the voltage when I had it running before she quit and it was 14.1. That actually seems okay to me. Any ideas on why she's dying after such a short time? I'm thinking an electrical overheat? Fuel cut relay, Engine stop relay, Pulse generator? Anyone have a short cut i should try?

thanks

Re: New to the CBR world

Could be the stator of she isn't holding on to the charge. When the bike dies, do the lights, dash, signals etc still work?

Re: New to the CBR world

yeah, they still work, but I've got it hooked up to a portable booster pack. I figured if I supplied full power it would start and I could test the stator, R/R to make sure. 14.1 volts on fast idle seems good though (for the brief time I had it running)..It should still run with the booster even if the R/R and or stator are dead no (until voltage is drained)? Seems to always run for the same amount of time before it poops. I key off (to hear pump prime) then try to restart. fires but doesnt catch (if that makes sense).

Re: New to the CBR world

I have a Feeling it could simply be the battery. Have u tried with a battery from one of your other bikes?

Re: New to the CBR world

no, but if i'm running off a booster pack or running while boosting from a car, there should be plenty of power regardless of the battery. Would a faulty RR cause one of the relays to trip? Strange because I was expecting either too low or too high voltage when I metered it while it ran.

Re: New to the CBR world

Does it cut off shortly after you remove the jump leads?

Re: New to the CBR world

I don't remove them. I assumed if I took them off it would die because I was told the stator was bad. Just always left it on to make sure.

Are you getting spark from the plugs?

Re: New to the CBR world

Nope. was told it would need a stator. So I'm still learning everything.

Re: New to the CBR world

Not yet. I wanted to test to see if I needed a stator, RR, Both, or something else first.

Re: New to the CBR world

If I were you, I would jump her and see if she remains idle and take her for a quick stop start 10min journey, or use a battery from your other bike to see if she starts on the button before you open your wallet.

Re: New to the CBR world

There in lies the problem. Even without disconnecting the boost the bike will only run for ablout a minute before it dies then won't restart

Re: New to the CBR world

Try another battery first from your other bike. Then bite the bullet and purchase a new stator mate
