What's up with my pillion seat ? (2001 929rr)

Starting to get chance to have a look round my bike and one glaring thing I've noticed is the pillion seat doesn't seem to sit properly.
It was worse than the pictures show, but the pillion strap was between the seat and the mounting bracket and so spacing the seat up even higher. I've swapped it round so the seat is now straight onto the back end hinge bracket but it's still sitting higher than the back end??
Any thoughts?

It's normal, mine is the same. Don't worry about it...

Re: What's up with my pillion seat ? (2001 929rr)

Oh :/ I was suspecting the original owner may have broken something and fitted a hinge system off another model or something, surprised to hear there are others like it!

Are the cowls a mechanical change ? (you have to get spanners out) or do they just clip over the seat?. I have seen some but my daughter likes to go out on the bike quite a bit with me and it'd get annoying having to regularly change that. Also with the metal screws being captive in the plastic of the seat mouldings I wouldn't trust them to be happy with being taken on and off quite a bit.

You just have to remove the two 10mm nuts on either side of the hinge and it pops right off. You dont have to worry about hurting the screws/seat plastic...my wife likes to ride with me and im constantly swapping the seat for the cowl cuz it looks so much better with the cowl on. Its not too much of a pain as it only takes about a minute to do at the most, but I can understand not wanting the extra hassle. If you do get a cowl though, I would recommend trying to find a genuine Honda one. There are lots of aftermarket ones, but in my experience they dont fit as well without a little "help" lol

I've actually ordered a Rentec grab rail to go on, which I suppose is further away from a cowl but my daughter wasn't happy with the seat strap

Re: What's up with my pillion seat ? (2001 929rr)

I've never known the strap to be anything other than cosmetic (aside from helping to spin the bike around in place using the side-stand).

If the bike isn't braking properly, you don't start by rebuilding the engine.

Re: What's up with my pillion seat ? (2001 929rr)

I think it stems from the fact my CBF600 had some quite snazzy pillion handles and she used to feel quite comfortable on those (with her feet hooked under the rear pegs when pulling off etc)
She actually frightens me about how blasť she can be about holding on, she's not overly keen on the pillion height on this bike either, but she's still insistent she wants to go out on it so I made the mistake of showing her the Rentec, another £40 lighter
