This is Torture

Alright, so in July I came out of a bar, watching a UFC fight to see my bike sitting on her side.

After a long drawn out fight with the insurance company, with the lady that backed into my bike, and a very very good lawyer, she is getting repaired. By me. I have been waiting and waiting for my parts to get here. I am in the process of replacing all of the fairings (bought off ebay), installing a speedo healer, heated grips, clip-ons, levers, ever bulb is getting replaced with LED/s, bar ends, custom LED everywhere that a light bulb would go, and on and on.

So, I have been waiting for all of this and now I am still waiting for the rest of the parts to show up so that I can put her in her original glory.

I have plans of putting her back (better that back) to the way she should look.

So here is how she is sitting right now.

The worst part for me is that I WASTED the best summer Oregon has seen in a long time. 68 days of no rain. I just really want for my parts to show up so I can get her back on the road.

Waiting suck.

So the claim has been OK'd? You're just waiting on parts?

Yes, there were a lot of people that saw her back into my bike and her insurance company accepted liability.

Re: This is Torture

So if the causers insurance has agreed to pay, why haven't you just handed it to a bike garage and said "sort this, they're paying?"

Was it just the right excuse to get some new shiny bits ?

I hate it when people carelessly scratch my car, I think I'd emit some 40 year old man tears if someone hurt my bike

Re: This is Torture

Yes and no, I am putting new shiny stuff on my bike but the insurance totaled out my bike. If I had to send it to a shop it would have cost me more than the amount the insurance company paid out. So all of the work will be done by me to cut costs. Which means I am just waiting.

Re: This is Torture

that sounds weird. they should pay out what it costs to fix it. if that is more than the bike is worth, they total the bike out, meaning they keep the bike and give you a check for the amount it would cost to repair. if you wanted to repair it, you cash that check, buy the damaged bike from the insurance co for cheap since it's damaged, and use the leftover money to fix the bike. sounds like you got bent over by the ins co, unless i am misunderstanding.

same thing happened to a buddy, someone backed into his bike. repairs were thousands of dollars, and the bike wasn't worth that much, but the insurance co paid out what it would cost to fix.

What's weird?
Slim said the insurance company paid him the total value of the bike. He did just what you said, bought his salvage title bike back from them, and is using the balance of the money to buy parts. Now he's waiting for his parts, and waiting sucks...

Re: This is Torture

maybe i misread. sounded like he got less than it cost to repair. when it happened to my buddy, he got a check for how much it would cost to repair, even though that check was for more than his bike was worth.

To me, that's weird. That's definitely not standard practice for the major insurance companies.
They pay you for the street value of the bike. And we all know, when you sell a bike-you never get a price that reflects all the $ worth of your upgrades.

Re: This is Torture

Ok I misspoke. He owned the bike, so they paid him more than they would have if the ins co owned it. But they still paid the amount needed to repair it.
