Re: Fireblade - Down shifting from 5th to 2nd gear

im confused at the people saying that you should shift each gear, then how do you back it into corners?

i cant help on the question because i do not know the answer, but on the old blades (98) i can shift as many as i want.

surely someone else here has a blade like yours and can confirm this question.

You can steer a car with your feet too - doesn't mean it's the correct course of action.

If the bike isn't braking properly, you don't start by rebuilding the engine.

Re: Fireblade - Down shifting from 5th to 2nd gear

its not my thread/problem, i was just comenting on perople saying you should only change one gear at a time, and this just isnt the cas in every circumstance

(The blokes problem is he can only change a couple of gears and then it wont let him shift anymore.)

What does gear shifting have to do with backing it into corners?
You can back it into corners without shifting down or even braking.

Re: Fireblade - Down shifting from 5th to 2nd gear

that is true, but the correct method when slowing down for a corner and backing it in, front brake, down two gears clutch out. or for anyone whos ever raced or ridden supermoto.

I don't think there is a "correct method", there are different methods that suit different riding styles.
How do you back it into a corner that doesn't allow downshifting or only one downshift?

It just occurred to me, are you talking about low-speed cornering like Supermoto and dirt bikes rather than road-racing speeds?

But according to you you need to shift down two gears to be able to do it, so how do you do it without changing down at all if this is the "correct" way?
"Backing it in" is nothing to do with downshifting.

Re: Fireblade - Down shifting from 5th to 2nd gear

well you could use the back brake, to slow down the roation of the rear wheel to induce a slide (or use the throttle but this is powersliding)

is that ok mr.

You don't need to use the rear brake at all, you can put the rear sideways just by moving your body around and steering.

Get yourself off the bike early while braking and the rear will automatically move out to the opposite side to balance the bike, then begin your turn.
