First of all im new to the forums but have read many threads and have learned alot about the blades, so thank you to everyone here for contributing thier time and knowledge. What a great community this board has.

So i just got a 02cbr954 with 10k miles, dont know the history of the bike but its most likely been raced/ ridden hard.

First problem: it makes a clunk sound every 10 second from the bottom of motor while cold in neutral. Pretty sure its clutch related ?

But what has me boggled at the moment.. Drained the oil and found 6 small pieces of plastic chunks in the oil. Checked the cam chain guides and no damage found. Chain is in great shape and tensioner is also good. From where else could plastic particles be coming from?

I have tried searching all day and havent found anyone with similar problem. Any ideas ?

What colour are they?
It might be worth dropping the sump to see if there are any bigger pieces in there as well.

Looked to be a beige color, didnt find anything larger in the sump.
The knock the bike does every 10 seconds or so goes away when the bike is warm or goes away when the clutch is pulled while its still cold so im assuming its just in the clutch.

Where are all points in this motor that contains any plastic? I figured a chain guide somewhere which is why i checked the cc but that wasnt it.

could be a seal or a O ring that degraded but cant help with out seeing what it looks like. those are the only plastic parts i can think of unless someone dropped something in there

thats the best i can do for a pic. thats the drain plug on the right side of the pic so you can get an idea about how big the fragments are.

It is plastic for sure and i have no clue where it came from. I just got the bike changed the oil before riding it, when it was drained it was a bit thin but was clean. Now with fresh oil took it out for a 30 min ride. Really pushed the bike hard and fast. It shifted prefectly and stayed in every gear. No power loss whatsoever either. Got back from the ride and drained oil and there it was little bits of plastic. Im boggled.

The knock sound i hear every 10 seconds at idle when cold start is coming from the clutch basket most likely and will be pulling it apart saturday but i dont expect to find any plastic there...

Always the rare and unusual things happen to me...

How about something like a neutral switch or speed sensor housing?

The neutral light works and the speedo works, im thinking if something got chewed up they would have quit working? I dont know much about these motors and am not a mechanic.

I dont even have the manual yet, need to download one to get a better idea of where everything is.

Wth??? That's pretty wild. Somebody must have missed the cap ring slipping in while filling?

Lol, i thought about the filler cap too, was the first thing i checked. I defintely will be posting results if i get to the bottom of it, both with this and the clutch knock. But until then i am still open for any ideas. There has to be something i am missing.

He's talking about the small ring around the bottle after you take the regular cap off a quart of oil. One might have fallen in and got chewed up.

I don't think they are small enough to fall in on their own. You'd have to push it in.
