Battery leaking?

ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Hi guys

When the bike is sat for about 4 days without being started, the battery doesnt have enough charge to start her up.

Its a new battery so all is fine there.

The charging system checks out fine, 14.5 ish when running.

In the picture ive circled a connection that seems to have voltage but its not connected to anything as you can see, what is this? Is it normal? Could this be why the battery is being drained when the bike is not running?

The machine is a 2001 929 thanks!

Just because a battery is new doesn't automatically rule it out.
Why was the battery replaced?
What is the voltage with ignition off?
With ignition on?
What does it fall to when you press the starter button?
Do you have anything non-OEM on the electrical system - alarm perhaps?
Diagnostics connector.

Re: Battery leaking?

The battery was replaced because the previous owner had it standing for a while and it wasnt holding enough charge for 2 consecutive starts.

Voltage with ignition off was 12.6 ish.

Voltage with ignition on was 12.3 ish.

When I start it drops down to 6 .

Nothing non-OEM on the electrics that I know of, certainly no alarm.

Diagnostics connector........I see.

Anything under about 10.5V is never going to be enough to crank the engine over. Exactly how "new" is this battery"? Can you make a warranty claim on it?

A good Yuasa should be a lot more expensive than that - I pay around A$165 for them. That seems like a good price for Yuasa.

Re: Battery leaking?

Check out MotoBatt. I have an AGM one in my 929 and it's awesome.

If the bike isn't braking properly, you don't start by rebuilding the engine.
