1998 RRW Charging issue?

Hey all I have a 98 CBR900RRW with 84000 KMs last fall my battery puked all its contents out on the last ride of the season. I've since replaced it with a new one. Started the bike today and it's charging at 12.4v @ idle, 13.5v @ 3000rpm and 14.9v @ 5000rpm. So is my regulator fried? If so has anyone tried the "Caltric" stuff from ebay?

Thanks in advance.

Measure the AC voltage on each of the three phases of the stator, perhaps you've dropped one.

The DC volts looks ok so as BR said check the AC volts. Can be you get the volts, but the amperage isn't there so things go wrong.

Re: 1998 RRW Charging issue?

OK checked the stator, all three wires have no continuity to ground or the case, wire to wire from the stator all have < 0.5ohms with each other. AC voltage is all identical idle is aprox 9-11v ac 5000rpm being 35-38v ac bike was at 150F. Plugged it all back together battery is at 12.30v dc at idle 5000rpm shows 13.8-14v dc now not 14.8v dc as before. So my question is this.. I had the battery boil over last fall. New battery now and everything appears ok, yet I am still leary to ride. What do u all think? Am I ok?

Thanks
Rick

Those are very low AC readings. Just to confirm, you did have the meter set to AC rather than DC?
I'd be checking that the rotor is magnetic all the way around it.
Has it ever crashed on the left side?

Ya meter was on AC. Bike was down on left side. Bottom of casing is ground some.

Re: 1998 RRW Charging issue?

OK so after more research, because google is way cheaper than ebay lol I found this youtube video

After watching the video I checked the stator the way he did ( I was putting one lead on the stator wire and the other to ground) I now have (all 3 phases are within a volt or two of each other) Engine temp 150F: Idle 17v AC ; 3000rpm 35v AC; 5000rpm 67v AC. Bike charges (DCv @ battery) idle= 12.7v; 300rpm=13.6v; 5000rpm=14.2-14.5v
So am I now to conclude that everything is normal and charging properly?
Thanks in advance

Rick
