2001 929rr Fireblade HISS question

Hi,
I currently own a 2001 929rr Fireblade. Recently (last month) someone tried to steal the bike with a screw driver when I was not home. The bikes steering was locked. They did not manage to steal it, all they managed to do was completely wreck the ignition barrel so I could not use my key in it anymore, nor unlock the steering.

I managed to get the bike picked up, and it is now at my local Honda dealership. They have quoted me $1800 (Australian) to fix the bike. That includes a new ignition barrel, new keys encoded to the computer, and they say it needs a new computer. This is what I am unsure about. Was wondering what you guys think. I was under the assumption that all it would need would be a new ignition barrel, new keys and a new transponder.

Grateful for any replies, thanks :-)

If you still have the original key then you do not need to replace the ECU, you can simply add new keys to your ECU.
Or simply replace the damaged barrel and have a locksmith fit the barrel to your existing keys.
Until then you can still ride simply by removing the base from the ignition switch so you can turn the ignition.
To remove the steering lock you need to drop one fork out of the top clamp to remove the clamp.

And be sure to thank the dealer for being so incredibly helpful ;-)

I was not aware of that. That's interesting to know.
Sorry I don't have access to my bike and manual right now (I just moved and everything is packed).
