Help needed!

Hi guys,

I have a new to me CBR 900RRW.

Ive had it for a few weeks now, when i first got it i could hear a slight rattle. I was told this was normal and would probably be the carb sliders.

Since then the problem has become worse. It now sounds like a tractor.

Doesnt disappear when warm as it may have done previously.

Here's a video to show the issue. There is a better example at the end of the video.

Many thanks,

BA

Re: Help needed!

Kinda sounds like an exhaust leak. By the cylinder head maybe? Or possibly a cylinder isn't firing properly or not at all? Have you noticed any loss of power?

Re: Help needed!

Hi buddy,

Thanks for the reply.

I haven't noticed a loss of power at all, but then again i haven't been giving it any since the noise started.

A few people have said that it could be an exhaust leak. So i will be removing the exhaust tomorrow and checking it over.

A few others have said that it could be a shim? Is this likely?

BA

Re: Help needed!

if you are going to remove the exhaust make sure you use new gaskets as one could be causing the leak in the 1st place (i've made this mistake!). Haynes says you must remove the radiator however it can be done without doing this, just takes longer & you may loose a knuckle or two.

2nd thoughts, cam chain tensioner maybe?

oh, thats running on all cylinders btw, believe me you would know if it wasnt!

Re: Help needed!

Alright guys,

Just finished it all off, managed to get it sorted.

Whoever decided to put the exhaust on, decided it would be best tightened up with their fingers.

So new gaskets and tightened up correctly and she runs like a charm!

Thanks for the advise and help guys,

BA
