Re: Need you guys help: 98 cbr900rr

What kind of carbs? Flatsides? Any other backfiring or pops or anything. Slow acceleration of revs anything?
let me know what carbs are on it. And can be of better help.

Hows exhaust smell clean burn, rich fuely smelling.? Check plugs coloring.

Does it run better or worse when cold. Does or start easy when cold no choke? Or does it have hard start issues even with choke on? Lil more info would help too.

Re: Need you guys help: 98 cbr900rr

I would start by breaking down and cleaning the carb very well. Check the plugs while your at it and drain/refill with fresh gas. Check the fuel filter too. my guess is the carb is dirty and gummed up

Re: Need you guys help: 98 cbr900rr

Yeah, explain aftermarket carbs a little more. If they are flat slides then I would suspect that that's not the only mod on the engine. Those carbs were 1200 bucks back in the day and were really only used on race motors (but I know a few guys that had them on the street too). Not trying to insult your intelligence, but do you mean it's been "jetted"? Need more background and history with the bike. Could be the idle is set too low. But flat slide carbs have so many adjustments you could spend weeks trying to dial them in for "drivability". They are meant to be used at the top of the powerband.

This just started happening out of the blue?
What sort of carbs are you running?
Stock airbox and filter?
Is the vacum hose sucking fuel from the fuel tap?
At what RPM are you trying to launch from stop lights?
How much mileage on the spark plugs?

Re: Need you guys help: 98 cbr900rr

Yea sorry guys but they are flat side carbs came with the bike and as for a choke the last owner said it was running with out a choke. But when I took the bike to the dealer because I had I no start problem they put one on the bike and ran good for some time then this problem now, and it dos start and run stronger when cold than when warm. Now it won't even rev out with out bogging then stalling out

From what I remember flat slides don't have a choke, so the PO was right about that. Now i'm curious how the dealer "put one on"? That might be your problem. Got any Pics?

Yup 39mm flat slides all right. Still curious about the choke. Do you know how they made it? And if those velocity stacks aren't filtered, with all that dirt and grime I see sound them, that may have something to do with it. The carbs may need to come out and be cleaned, and you may have other internal issues if they are unfiltered.

Yes exactly right Mike. That's the idle adjustment knob. The white nylon portion needs to be stationary in order for it to work correctly. So still, where is this choke he speaks of???

My 39mm FCR's don't have chokes.
