Re: Pirelli Supercorsa in the wet ?

I've never used them, but my understanding is that they aren't that great, as there is no tread on the edge of the tires. So, once you're leaned over it's kind of like being on slicks. The Pirelli Diablo or Diablo Corsa are good choices for rainy day riding.

My understanding, as well. AFAIK, Supercorsas, like most other DOT race rubber (e.g. Dunlop 208GP) do not have silica in the compound, which is a big contributor to wet weather grip. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.) Add this to the lack of grooves at the edge of the tire, as HG2 mentioned, and you have a slippery situation.

I run the 208GPs, and after doing a couple days in damp/foggy situations will not go out on them anymore in those conditions. I found the feeling to be like riding on very cold tires. Vague and slippery.

Just my . YMMV.

Don't do it.
Take a nice look at the tires - once you try to lean it over on wet pavement, you'll be sliding around. They're pretty slippery.

Re: Pirelli Supercorsa in the wet ?

Supercorsas are really race tires, they do have DOT approval but noone would recommend them for the street. Go with Diablo Corsas and you'll get near race tire grip as well as rainy day grip.

Re: Pirelli Supercorsa in the wet ?

Hiya,

I had to ride for about 200km in the rain wearing a set of worn-off supercorsas while returning from a trackday last summer. The other guy that was with me had completely woren off michelin race tyres.

We survived. lol.

Although they are definately not ideal for rainy conditions, I guess you can trumple along for a while without leaning the bike and being very gentle on the gas. However, I don't know what will happen if you hit standing watter. I almost fell once while wearing my Diablos... if I had the supercorsas on... bam!

Cheers

Re: Pirelli Supercorsa in the wet ?

I did a wet track day @VIR, The bike had Supercorsas on it. I slid all over the place for 3 sessions and bought a set of Diablo Corsas. The next day was dry and I was amazed at how well the Diablo Corsa's gripped. I'm still pretty slow, but was faster and smoother on the Diablo Corsa then when using the Supercorsas there 3 weeks prior.
