954 front end ~ 600RR front rim

I have a 954 front end for a swap and I can get a 07-12 600RR rim local. Does anyone have the dimensions of the critical mounting points for the 954 forks/rim, or know first hand if the 600RR rim will work? If changing the bearings is all I need thats fine, but need to know if the rotors mounts have the same offset or pretty close. I can make new spacers if need be too.

Thanks

The main problem with the 954 forks is that they're designed to run the huge 330mm discs that only the 929 and 954 have. I'd stay with a 929/954/1000RR wheel so you can just use the 929/954 discs.

I just checked and it looks like the 600RR is the same bolt pattern so it should work. You will need new bearings and the bearing spacer and probably need to make axle spacers.

Re: 954 front end ~ 600RR front rim

Just need to fun out the mount width of the rotors on that rim though then.

Just find a dealer with a 600RR on the floor and take a measurement across the discs.

Re: 954 front end ~ 600RR front rim

Do you the measurements of the bearing spacer? OD ID and length?

You would need to measure the distance between the bearings.
ID will be 25m or slightly larger, OD will be 5-6mm larger than that.
If you're really lucky the 929/954/1000RR spacer will be the same length. Otherwise just get a rear spacer and cut it to exactly the same length as the 600RR one you take out of the wheel. Cut it long and then dress it to length ensuring both ends are perfectly square - put it in a drill press and use a file if you don't have a lathe.

I'd use that then :-)
You'll have to chase up some 25x42mm bearings.

Re: 954 front end ~ 600RR front rim

The 954 inner spacer is 111.10mm long and the 600RR (which is the same as the RC51) is 109.05mm long.
Both use 47mm diameter bearings but the 954's are 12mm wide and the 600RR's are 14mm.
Bothe use 110mm diameter mounting for the rotors and both have 117.05mm spacing between the rotor mounting surfaces, both use 12.5mm offset rotors.
You could easily use the narrower 954 wheel bearings and seals in the 600RR wheel and turn down the inner spacer and fab up some longer spacers for the outside.
954 outer spacers are 17.5mm on the right hand side and 10mm on the left.
If I measured correctly the total 954 bearing/spacer stack should come out at 162.6mm

I hope that helps

Excellent information.
The early 600RR wheel has the 47mm bearings - he wants to use the late model wheel.
The inner spacer length doesn't change due to bearing width. The bearing outer races sit tight in the wheel, the inner spacer keeps the inner races aligned. To shorten the inner spacer you would have to machine the shoulders of the wheel shorter.

Didn't know they changed the 600RR wheel, all the measurements I have are off of an '06

Re: 954 front end ~ 600RR front rim

That's awesome info! Getting bearing is no problem. I have a BDI bearing place near me. Already got some odd ball metric bearings for my trailer and seals there. I see my local honda dealer about any difference between '06 and '07-'12 rims. Hopefully nothing other than color.

They changed back to the 20mm axle for '07.
