Hey all,
I am new to this forum. I just purchased a used CBR 954 two weeks ago with 14k miles on it. Its black and silver with a jardine slip on and it has a steering damper on it. I changed the oil last week end and I changed the front brake pads this weekend. I would like to change my coolant but I can't figure out how to remove the dust cover tabs from the gas tank. I can pull the black tab out but it seems impossible to pull the whole piece out of the tank. There has to be a trick to getting this piece out. I need to remove the dust cover in order to remove my fairings.

Is the fairing bolt under the dust cover held on by rubber well nuts or speed nuts?

Yeah, one of the fairing bolt is under the dust cover. You have to remove the duct/dust cover taking away two bolts (one close to the tank and the other one close to the fork).

Then you pull out the duct cover carefully and you can take the fairings without problems.

It's important you have the service manual. It has everything about your bike from changing oil to disassemble the engine.
