Headlight relays ?

Are these really necessary ?

Looking to remove them, to save bulk behind streetfighter headlamp unit !

First bike I've had with them, so assume they can be switched straight from the switch itself ?

Cheers.

You might have to beef up the wiring and the switch.
Relays close high current circuits via a low current circuit.

Re: Headlight relays ?

You're putting the full load on the switch. It might not handle the amperage. That's why they use the relay- to let it do the heavy work.

Re: Headlight relays ?

Will have a look at the switchgear.

May wire the dipped beam to the sidelight, as new headlight doesn't have a sidelight, so should be able to do away with the dipped beam relay and just keep the high beam relay ?

Re: Headlight relays ?

Why not relocate the relay to the back of the bike and run new wiring to the headlight?

Better run a pretty heavy main power wire. At least 12AWG. Of course, switch power can stay small, like 18AWG.
But that's a better idea than eliminating the relay.
