tire recommendations 95 blade

Hey people,

So the tires that came on my new (to me) blade look pretty old, so I'm looking to have them replaced for spring.

I have the stock wheel configuration with a 16 in the front and a 17 in the rear.

I'm interested in just a solid all around street tire. Not interested in the track just yet as this is my first sportbike, so I just want something that will perform well in a street environment.

I did some searching but was having trouble finding the info that I needed.

If you guys have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Re: tire recommendations 95 blade

You can tell by reading the DOT date on the tyre. There is a recommended limit of 5 (ISTBC) years after first use.

Street tyres with a 16" front? That's where it gets tricky. Pretty much all the fronts available are super- or hyper-sports tyres.

Changed my 94 blade to 17" front wheel. Much happier with tyre choice.

I want to keep the stock tire configuration. I was just looking to see if anyone could make a recommendation as far as that goes.

I'm no Rossi or Marquez but I like the standard feel of the 16" wheel and the way it turns. Yes you're limited with choice but the Bridgestone S20 is a good tyre.
I've taken it for a few laps of the track and ride it on the road as well and I like them

Re: tire recommendations 95 blade

It is a matter of personal preference.

I prefer the handling of the 17" front, tyre choice is a useful aside.

I suspect that most modern tyres are better than those available in 1994......

But in the end, the tyres Flashart or I like may not suit you... You need to experiment.

Have fun and good luck....

I will be trying out the 17" wheels this year as I do wonder if one day they'll stop making decent 16" tyres. I have 2 x 16" and 2 x 17" wheels but yet to try the 17".
I'll probably buy a set of S20s again but in both front sizes and directly compare the feel.
My Blade also has the 16" in an attempt to keep it original as it's only just clicked 3000 miles.

Re: tire recommendations 95 blade

I have the CBR600 rim that looks identical to standard blade rim..(and have also used NC30 rim) - But is 17". Fits easy to pre 98 blades. Many posts on here about this conversion.

98 blades more difficult, but still some threads here on how to do the conversion (uses different front rim and rotors etc)

Using same brand and model tyres is smart to be able to see real difference front rim change makes.

I did the same with Pirelli Corsas when I changed to 17" front rim..

Carl, by the look of the tread from your pictures the front tire looks like the original Battalax that it came with from the factory. I've heard good things about the S20's. Should be competent set up for your 16" front. I have a set of Dunlop sport max II's on my current 900. They have 100% of their tread but are over 12 years old. They are going.

Yeah they are the original tires! I've narrowed it down to the Battlax S20's and the Metzeler Sportec M3's. Both are priced right around the same. Anyone have any experience with either?

Re: tire recommendations 95 blade

I'm still using the 17" rear and 16" front configuration. I drive in all types of weather including freezing cold to rain and have been running Conti Sport Attacks for awhile now and find them to be very good all around tire.

Re: tire recommendations 95 blade

As I said, the Bridgestone S20s are a very good all round street tyre and the odd novice track day tyre. I really like them and they get a good review in the wet, not that there's any chance of my mint 3000 mile Blade seeing the rain.
Oh and they're bloody cheap over there in the States. I'm working over there in March and will be buying a couple of pairs from Chapperal motor sports

Re: tire recommendations 95 blade

I put a set of Avon 3d Ultra sport tires on my 98 blade (with a 16" front) and rode them all last season. I'm very pleased with the how quickly they warm up. And the level of grip is consistent through dry or wet. I'm really happy with them. But as people have noted, tires are a personal preference and you can only know how they feel if you try them out.
