I was wondering who has the oldest 900RR up and running. The story behind mine is the first owner put a deposit on it when Honda had an open house in a south Florida dealership to place prelim orders and showed photos of the bike.
He forgot all about the deposit until the dealer called him one day to say his bike was ready. He quickly collected some cash to go get the bike which he kept from new, riding it for a substantial time, then leaving it to sit in his shop covered for about ten years.
I then talked him into selling it to me over a period of months finally getting it in late 2009.
Its an original survivor, never been crashed or dropped, serviced as required and lived a somewhat average life for 50.000 miles before I got it. Once i had purchased it, I did a mild cosmetic resto to the bikes panels, and went through everything electrically and mechanically.
The VIN plate on the head tube section has a build date of 2/92 on it, so I wonder just how early of a production run this bike really is. To be in the production series with a Feb 92 build date is a long way from the mid to end of 92 timeframe, which is more of the normal build date span for an early 93 model.
