RRT/RRV Silencer

Gents,

bit of a boring question this one but how come some 1996 RRTs have the early gloss black steel silencer and some have the Aluminium version. I thought the 1996/1997 RRT/RRV had aluminium cans.

Is it simply early production versions used up the old gloss black from the RRN/RRP ??

Re: RRT/RRV Silencer

The aluminium silencer was added to the 97 rrv as a minor weight saving update over the 96rrt. Check out motorcyclespecs.co.za.

Do you mean some '96's came from the factory with the steel muffler?

If you go on to the specs for the 97 it mentions the change in exhaust-

"Keeping their recipe for 1997, when the RRV model was released, Honda had added some horses and reduced the weight a little bit by using a new aluminum silencer. Weighing only 183 kg, the only thing that the bike than needed were some new color schemes which gave a new apparel and made that model year stand out even more."

I've got a 97 and apart from colour schemes I believe this was the only difference between the 2 models on a UK bike.

Some of the colour schemes shown aren't just UK.

Yes I realize in the write up it mentions the change to an aluminum exhaust but the pictures show aluminum exhausts on both the 1996 and 1997. I have a 1996 RRT and it has the silver aluminum can but I've seen pictures of 1996 models with the older Shiny black can that was fitted to the 893cc models.
No great shakes I was just wondering why the difference.

How do we know the muffler wasn't replaced on the secondhand bike with an earlier one due to damage?
Do you have any official Honda photos of the '96 with the steel muffler?

That statement simply says they used a _new_ aluminium silencer, not that the previous silencer was steel.

Interestingly I found this original sales brochure on Fireblade.com and it clearly shows pictures of both the shiny black silencer and Alloy silencer. I reckon Honda just used up the old black ones from the 893 range first

I'm not seeing the steel muffler there.
The black steel one is '92/'93 only isn't it?

That sales brochure on Fireblades.com, the last page of the brochure shows the 3 colours at the bottom with black silencers and the pic of the rear of the bike on the track has an alloy one.

And yes I thought the black was only 92-93

Maybe UK models had the steel muffler?
