2002 CBR 954 Hesitate and dies

i have a 2002 Honda Cbr 954 with the following issue when starting and idling after short time will start going in and out with hesitation .. like rpms will go up and down then it will eventually die .. When riding the bike it will have the same issue it will jump rpm down then back up .. and then die and not start for like 10-15 mins ..

i emptied the fuel tank and reinstalled more gas same issue there

i checked the fuel pressure regulator and no leaks or gas coming out into the vacuum ..

i dont understand what it could be just started doing it please help

Re: 2002 CBR 954 Hesitate and dies

How many miles on your bike? Valves too tight perhaps? As the engine warms up, it becomes tighter, and simply won't get enough air to run. Check your valve clearance. If it's outside of spec, it's a pain to adjust, time consuming anyway. It takes shims, ($75 kit) and you'll have to remove the cams to do the job.

Re: 2002 CBR 954 Hesitate and dies

You have a way to check for codes, follow steps in a shop manual? This is a V-Tec engine, doing some online searches for similar issues, you did go to the usual places others started at, problem is people never write in the threads later when they solved the issue. "One way street" with a lot of new members asking for help, but won't document success for the next guy. Good time to change that here though.

Re: 2002 CBR 954 Hesitate and dies

Sounds like you're ready to just tow it into a repair shop that knows what they're doing, and it seems you're doing nothing. Forums just don't have a crystal ball for diagnostics and you sound like you don't know how to fix it yourself, which is common all over this forum. It's the obvious answer, sorry if it ruffles the ego feathers, but you won't find any shorts. Let us know what they did to fix it.

I did have different problem but FPR seems to be problem even it didn`t leak.
I replace FPR and now bike seems to run much better.
So your problem could also be FPR even it doesn`t leak !

Re: 2002 CBR 954 Hesitate and dies

I understand the desire to save money, satisfaction of fixing your own bike, but going on every whim and direction feed through a forum of what it could be, will actually work against you in this particular situation. I would just take it in. Random parts replacement gets expensive.

Re: 2002 CBR 954 Hesitate and dies

I would try getting a volt metre on the fuel pump and make sure it runs continuously. If it's cutting out, this could be the cause. But it will also eliminate a possible culprit.

If you hold the revs up at 3000, does it still do the same thing?

Coil/s? They can break down, worse when hot. I'm sure there is a way to test them with a multimeter/fluke.
