Iphone 5 mount for 1998 900rr??

Anyone know a cheap, simple and easy way to safely mount an iphone 5 on the gas tank or any where else? My issue is my Fireblade has a 1997 motor on it and the speedo is a 1998 and its not compatible. I have mounted a usb port on the handle bars. I just cant seem to find a mounting setup I like. Throw me some ideas. Thanks.

You should still be able to run wires from the engine mounted speed sensor to the harness where the wires go to the speedo itself. The 97 gauges should still work. But you would need to buy a "speedo healer" to have it read properly. Added expense, but it should all work. If that's your cup of tea. I have a set of digital F4i gauges going on my 93 900. I had to buy the 97 sprocket cover and speed sensor to send the signal to the dash. And I will also have to get a speedo healer to get the dash to read the proper speed. I guess this mod has been done several times on this site and others. If you have the 97 harness and gauges it should be pretty straight forward. Sorry, no info on an iPhone 5 mount. The 4's have been around the block with mounts though. Do a search.

Eh, I had it backwards, 98 gauges with 97 motor. But same idea anyway.

Ok good enough. First off, you have a great bike. And any interest in wrenching on it compels me to tell you to get a shop manual for it. That being said, there are sticky's for the wire diagrams listed at the top of the Fireblades section for each year you have. I checked and it looks like both the 97 speed sensor that comes off the sprocket cover has the same 3 wires that would then get connected or spliced into the 98 harness. Do you have the 97 sensor wires coming off the front sprocket cover? They should be a pink, black, green. You should be able to find same on each part to connect together and see what happens. I should have asked if you have the sensor first, but I didn't think of it til now. If the motor was swapped out it might not be there. But nonetheless it's easy to try and make it work if you have it.

Re: Iphone 5 mount for 1998 900rr??

I really appreciate it, I will let you know as soon as I get my bike back from the shop. They are doing the routine season work. Tires, spark plugs all that good stuff. My wife wont let me do that kind of stuff anymore, after my 2001 GSXR 600 stator seal went bad and there was a lake of oil everywhere the next morning lol.

Re: Iphone 5 mount for 1998 900rr??

velcro it to the tank...? lol i seen that tonight on a 04 cbr1000... yea he velcro-ed his i phone to the tank...

i leave my phone at home half the time or turn it off and put it under the seat. my ride time is ride time. dont care to much about speed limits i know when im goin fast enough dont need some sign telling me much less my inaccurte phone gps telling me how fast im going.

i have never owned iphone and prob never will. their gps maybe very close to actual speed but i seriously doubt it.? could be wrong like i said never had one or ever wanted one.

damn ankle monitor tracks me enough.... j/k j/k

i would like to know how and the hell you managed to not seal the side cover and leaked oil everywhere? thats a whole lot better than a iphone mount. lol

Rubber side down, One wheel to the sky for those who we won't forget. R.I.P homies miss you.

Re: Iphone 5 mount for 1998 900rr??

Have a RAM mount for iphone5, with the fork stem mount, also have a clamp on my mtb so i can swap the iphone between them. It's not waterproof, but you can get ram ball mount cases that are if you need waterproof. This way the phone is in the right place for sat nav, i then use a sony mw600 connected to RHA earbuds (the best i have found for sound on the bike), to bluetooth up music/sat nav etc
