97 fuel filter not coming out

Hey guys. I've got my tank off, but the plastic girl filter didn't come out with the petcock assembly. A few mm are sticking out of the bottom, just above the o-ring. Any ideas how to get it out? I need to clean it because my bike is running poorly. Thanks!!

Can't grab the last couple mm's with a small needle nose?

Re: 97 fuel filter not coming out

Naw, I tried but it's pretty soft plastic and gets chewed up easily... I didn't want to mangle it too badly.

Yeah, unfortunately with it being in there so long it's fate may be to be ruined. It does squish easily, but will probably be the only way to remove it. Have you peered into the fill cap and looked at its condition from inside the tank? May not need to come out.

Re: 97 fuel filter not coming out

I put her back together because we commute every day, but I'll take a look tomorrow. I have a feeling I'm going to need to whip the carbs off and give them a clean, was just looking for a possible easy fix.
