954 died and lost all power

I have an 02 954 with 27k on it. Battery tested GOOD so I know its OK there. Here is what happened - started bike letting it warm up and all of a sudden it shut off. Still had juice so started it and went to get gas at local station - it cut out and shut off. Lost all power to gauges, etc. Charged battery and it will start again but seems to be draining the battery.

Would anyone have any input as to whether or not the issue is a bad regulator?

Bike is all original and I am original owner. Any input is appreciated before I would order a regulator.

Thanks!

Re: 954 died and lost all power

Grab a multimeter and check what voltage it is charging at.

Re: 954 died and lost all power

I had the battery tested and it showed 12.6 volts. Is that what you mean?

I am not all that good when it comes to electrical.

Re: 954 died and lost all power

12.6 volts at rest is pretty weak. I can see your bike demanding more power than that to stay running if your stator or reg/rec aren't charging enough.

Test your reg/rec with a multi meter, and your stator too.
The only catch is the bike should be warmed up to operating temp to get accurate readings.

I disagree. There's plenty of good info around here that he can start with to see if he can solve the problem without relying on someone else who's going to charge a pretty penny for electrical issues.

Edit: I'm not a mechanic, I'm not experienced with motorcycle electrical. But I've researched and asked enough questions to discover how to test my stuff and resolve problems. It's not all that difficult, but a good learning experience.
Here's my last go at testing my Reg/rec and stator. If you see problems with the content - please feel free to comment.

Re: 954 died and lost all power

Grab a multimeter and test the rr and stator. My money is on one of those being bad. Your manual should have instructions on how to do that.

An electrical test at ANY SHOP is going to be FAR more practical and affordable to anyone, including you, in testing and diagnosing electrical/charging issues. I work in a shop that does that most of the time, for free.
