Slow start. CBR1000RR 2013

Hey guys/girls,

I recently purchased a CBR1000RR 2013! I have noticed on a cold start up it will take a while to start up (around 2 seconds). When all my other bikes have had almost instant start up. It has never had a problem starting, it's just slow!

I am assuming this is OK, but thought I would ask.

Thanks,

Sam

Re: Slow start. CBR1000RR 2013

Mileage? Ever down or sat for an extended period? Sounds like spark plugs to me, suspect stale fuel was resolved after a refill or two. Check with a dealer about what start conditions and signals the ECU is looking for otherwise. My ZX-14r did this until I replaced the plugs. It had only 6500 miles on it. Scary fast!

Once it has first started the other starts are very fast.

Re: Slow start. CBR1000RR 2013

I'd say to just let it go. Enjoy it. It's far more important to let it run a minute and warm up than be concerned about start up time within 2 seconds, in my opinion. I'd also get ready for a first oil change than get the break in oil out of there.

My behemoth, GL1800 cranks a bit too when it's the first start of the day.

Re: Slow start. CBR1000RR 2013

Ok, thanks. I am changing the oil at 500km then 1000km. I plan on asking the mechanics when I take it in. But I know they are gonna say "it's all good"...

So I thought I would see if anyone else has any similar experiences.

Thanks mate

Re: Slow start. CBR1000RR 2013

I would also look at the battery, is it the original one, is it a different brand. Is it the proper CCA spec for your bike? What you described sounds like a battery issue to me. Not that its a real issue, just that the battery may be just out of spec for your bikes needs on cold starts. Blunt may have missed this possibility since he's enjoying those over 70 degree temperatures in FL and the other half of the state is freezing, lol. With CCA issues it's less apparent in warmer climates. But like Blunt stated it's really a non issue
