Just bought another 929 thats been sitting for years

I just purchased a 2001 Erion Racing edition. It even has the Erion can from the dealer. Paid $1000 for it. Clean title Oh and the casing hasn't been welded from being dropped.

Here the problem.

The bike has sat for a couple of years. It got put up with a fueling issue. Fuel pump not priming. It did get bumped over to show me the motor is not locked up but it was just a bump since its been sitting. He didn't want to keep turning it. I don't have the bike for another two weeks. Couple of questions...

Fuel pump, I'm gonna check the ignition(I have a known working one), hard wire the pump itself to test it, and check the TIP sensor and fuel cut relay.

As far as it sitting for a while, oil change, coolant flush, should i drop a few drops of oil into the cyl to lube it up? and what else? I didn't see any rust inside of the tank so it has a good seal. I am going to take the old gas out and put fresh in it.

I parted my old running 929 out but I still have complete motor w/ TBs and injectors. Should I swap them out since the gas in the injectors could be gelled?

It also has a track front fairing on it. I need to source a stock front and headlight.

Re: Just bought another 929 thats been sitting for years

You should spray some WD-40 into the cylinders it penetrates (Giggedy) better, oil might foul up the plugs. My 929 sat for 2 1/2 years and the gas was bad but not jelly, even started it up with bad gas no harm just smelled terrible. Throw in some Lucas FI cleaner with fresh gas and you should be good.

Re: Just bought another 929 thats been sitting for years

Be ready for the fpr to give out. The diaphragm rots after a short period of sitting with todays gas.
Put fresh plugs in.
Change all fluids including fork oil and set riders sag.
Congrats on a great bike!!

I'm pretty sure your 929 has a relay for the tip sensor. I think they call it the *engine stop relay*. (On my bike they call it the bank angle sensor and bank angle relay.) If it's bad, it'll give you a no-fuel-prime too.

WD-40 is the last thing I'd spray in there before a start up. It is too thin to protect and will wash off any of the motor oil you had on the cylinders. Foul the plugs, it's worth it. Change the oil too. The important thing is once you start it, keep it running to full operating temperature, take it for a ride. I stored my ZX6R for 3 years, put in a little bit of oil in each cylinder overnight, and it fired right up and ran fine after 2-3 minutes for the smoke to clear. It needed a set of plugs anyway. WD-40 is not a cylinder lubricant. It penetrates rust, which probably doesn't exist in the cylinder anyway. You need a little oil, to protect the rings and cylinder wall on start up.

Re: Just bought another 929 thats been sitting for years

I'll get some pictures soon. It was a track bike and has track plastics. The tank is still the red, white, black scheme so I plan on trying to get some matching plastics soon. For the time being im just going to plastidip everything black and call her black betty.
